I have just come back from having ToffeePiggy put to sleep

She was 5 1/4 and had her exactly 4 years and 2 months and it is exactly two months to the day that she lost her boyfriend.

She had cancer and had been off her food for a few days. Her legs didn't seem to be working so I phoned the vet at 4.50 and by 5.45 she was gone .

I saw the end of your other thread about her legs not working and I thought "Oh that looks ominous"

When a guinea-pig loses it's love for food, it's not a good outlook. They really are the sweetest, greediest little animals.

She'll be on her way to Boyfriend Pig now- another To The Bridge.

Her leg was shaking and DH said she struggled to balance on her food dish so she could see what we had given her.

She is resting in the garage tonight so we can have the burial service tomorrow. She will be laid to rest close to her boyfriend.

We have lost 3 animals since May, two in two months.

I am not sure I can do this to my children many more times. . My 12 year old cried .

Just so sudden.

The last time I cleaned her out I had such a lovely cuddle with her. Tonight she nibbled on the vets arm and he thought she was adorable. Her breathing was the issue .

It is sad for everyone - adults and children.
When our GP2 died my DD (who is 11) and I took them to the vets and sat with the two pigs while GP2 died.

It's something we still talk about. It's nice to talk to my daughter about how we look after the boars.
And when we got GP3.

What I'm really really dreading is when GP1 goes.
I think my DD will cope but she'll be devastated.
Unfortunately though it's the price you pay for letting these little creatures into your life.

And I always think it's really sad when they leave their earth bodies behind. So light and floppy.

But you know, heart of hearts, that you did your 100% best.
That's what you need to concentrate on now.

Rip little guinea. Lovely idea to bury her near her friend. Very sad for your children who have lost so many friends.

This is a tough time for delicate guineas they need to be warm and snuggly all the time as they hate damp.

She had a good life. She was spoilt, especially so after losing her mate. We have enjoyed having her in the lounge with us for the last two months.

I now have a big hutch in the garden and an indoor cage with no resident .

The feeling you must have are sometimes worse than a human death, I lost my little tricky, and I can feel tears welling up as I speak, they become such important little munchkins to us, I keep expecting her to appear round the corner when I say the word 'chicken'(her favourite food.) Ollie my other Bichon missed her so much I got a rescue dog called Dougal, mad as a hatter but has cheered up Ollie no end and I can go out now without Ollie howling like a wolf. I now think that at least she is in no more pain and is waiting for me when I walk over the rainbow bridge to see her again looking like she did when she was a puppy...

It is just horrible. I feel so bad. She was weep weeping earlier and I thought she sounded happy. Bloody tumours.

I fed the cats yesterday and then went to feed ToffeePiggy .

Oh toffee, it's so hard to lose the little furries, isn't it. They go down hill so fast too but I agree, once they're off their food that's usually a very ominous sign.

I loved having indoor pigs; but now we have a large garden DH won't let me keep them indoors any more, they have to be outside. :( We have a big hutch but that's not the point - they're much more sociable indoors.

I hope that your cages don't stay empty too long but you need a little while to grieve over Toffeepig.

It is hard, especially as we lost our cat in May and our other piggy in September.

DH doesn't want anymore caged or hutched animals but obviously I am boss so we shall see. At the moment I can't. I don't feel it is fair to put the children through more losses.

We do have two cats now.
