Scabby hamster. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

DS's hamster has developed nasty looking scabs, mostly on her belly, but also round her neck over the last few weeks. I took her to the vet a few weeks back and they gave me some treatment for mites. 2 weeks after that I took her back as the scabby patches had got worse. They gave her an injection with some stronger mite treatment. That was 10 days ago and she is still looking no better. She seems to be fine in herself, although she is not a pretty sight.

We are due back to the vets in a couple of days but they have seemed fairly clueless so far so I wondered if anyone on here had any idea what this could be? Thanks.

Is the hair falling out at all? Could be mange?

It could be but isn't that caused by mites? I am fairly sure she doesn't have mites as 2 lots of treatment haven't touched it!

I am getting confused about mites. Ignore me - talking out of my behind! My hamster had mange and ended up bald so I can only suggest you go back to the vet. Sorry to not be more helpful. They are such wee and delicate beings...saying that, mine also managed to jump several foot from a table and survive!

Back to the vet tomorrow, unfortunately I got the impression that if the mite treatment didn't work they had no idea what else to try. Fingers crossed they will come up with something!

Poor wee thing. Mine lost all of his hair but seemed happy enough without it. It wasn't quite the same handling him though!

It doesn't look like she will be with us much longer. The vet now thinks its Lymphoma, and says there is nothing they can do. She said while she is eating and running around she is probably not in too much pain, but if she stops we need to think about taking her back to be PTS. Sad
