in my local pets at home today and peeked in at the guinea pigs. one, clearly a boy, busy humping all the girls in the girls section. hmmmm. i did tell the staff but bet you anything there will be a lot of surprised guinea pig owners in a few months time

he was a fair bit bigger than the other ones too. tbh i dont see how he was mis-sexed, unless he had been there a while, or had been taken out then put back in the wrong cage.

Ah. Well, those gps will be a surprise then! When I was a kid we got 2 female gps from a garden centre and one turned out to be pg. She gave birth to one massive baby and my gran was v impressed - she called it buy one, get one free

I had a (non P@H) BOGOF years ago We kept the piglet as it was one sow.

But a few months back I saw a very pear shaped P@H pig .
because they were very young themselves.

Bet they did it on purpose so people take the babies back, giving the store a fresh supply to sell!

I saw something similar in pah a couple of years ago. Told the store attendant that a boar was in with the girls and had been mating with one. She picked up the poor inoffensive baby girl and was told'we will have to move this one now, we'll never sell her...' I offered to take her as was very fearful for her fate. They refused to sell her as she was 'damaged goods'. Bastards.

And that, in a nutshell, is why i refuse to shop there :(

This is so depressing. It means people will unwittingly end up with more pets than they bargained for / can afford / can find homes or. Worse, it means pregnant sows won't get proper care if their owners don't know they are pregnant and they'll be at greater risk of harm when they do give birth. Oh, and it will add even more to the swathes of pets that aren't wanted and can't find homes.

I just can't bring myself to go in P @ H, so I'm scouting round the net for a new supplier of timothy hay. GP1 and GP2 are also getting a new "kid sister" (a Maine Coon Cat!) in 2 weeks time and I'm itching to shop for kitty things, but having to make do with online shopping. Why can't there be a pet shop out there that has a good selection but doesn't sell livestock?

"Damaged Goods" makes me furious. That's what you call a table with a scratch on it or a cabinet with a loose hinge, not a living creature. I don't want to think about what happens to them (fury face.)

Do you know it was definitely the girl section? At my local pah they have boys on both sides due to only having boys in stock. I know my much larger boy humps any younger ones he's introduced to and if they were young boys their testicles wouldn't be obvious iyswim?

Sadly yes, they were all girls in that section. I was with my vet nurse friends and we were looking at the girlies with a view to choosing two new ones for my old girl, so we had a very good look at their parts.... I offered to rehome the girl who was picked up and taken away from all her cagemates, - we were all very upset at this treatment. Sadly it is not my only bad experience at P @ H, as when one of my girl babies died after 2 days, they refused to refund any money unless I brought the dead girl in. Their attitude stinks I think. :(

Oh and you should have reported her to the manager if she called an animal 'damaged goods' that's really Not On.
