Pet insurance for Guineas?

On Friday we paid out an eye-watering £140 for our guinea pig to be x-rayed (suspected gall stones) and then issued with meds for cystitis.

She seems to be on the mend thankfully but our bank balance is going to take a while to recover! Does anyone have pet insurance for their piggies?

no we have only had to pay out about 40 on our two over the last six years. on Saturday one of ours was pts and that including the consult was £12.50, mind you can't put a price on a life you love

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that noyouhave. Yes, absolutely we had to pay it but I worry about possibly being in a situation in the future where we can't pay.

it is a lot mind, could they not do a pee test for cystitus?

Well she'd already been given antibiotics for the cystitis but then it got worse and she'd started bleeding so the vet checked for gall stones. We've had more antibiotics and some painkillers.

Hope she gets well soon... it is the luck of the draw I suppose, but we have kept piggies for around 20 years and have not yet been to the vet... so insurance would not have been worth it for us.

Thanks both. She's definitely better, she had me quite worried Friday as she was quite subdued. The bleeding has stopped now and she was hopping around happily and squeaking when I gave her some apple. Think I'll just look in to how to prevent cystitis as she's had it twice now, preventative measures will probably be cheaper than insurance!
