Lola not good think this might be it

i am sat here with her in tears. let them out this morning and popped my head in ten min later and she at bottom of ramp on her side trying to stand up. i have wrapped her now and she is sat eating her carrot a bit one sided bit panty but alert. Dh is on way back from a job to take per for an eleven twenty appointment. dd st with her now while i try to compose myself in front of our workmen.

right just put her on grass and she is stood up now eating a carrot wtf ? not moving much like.

Oh poor you and poor Lola- she really isnt doing well, and near the end it is always a bit like this - good moments and bad moments - if you feel she is suffering then really you have no choice but I know what a horrible situation it is and a horrible decision has to be made. It might be less stressful for you all round if you just take the decision to let her slowly go at home in her surroundings, she will go bit by bit, and you can be there with her... it is a horrible call. Please console your self with the fact she was well loved and lived well, and had a much loved life with you all, its all any pet could wish for. Sending you hugs and kind thoughts and a kiss for Lola, bless her.

she was flinching and rocking and rolling dh has took her to the vet i couldn't stop crying when dd said goodbye so he stepped in and has took her for me - i said to bring her home to go with the family if not suffering but i suspect she is Sad

she has gone Sad devastated.com. vet said her water retention issue was critical and a big fatal seizure would be imminent and pretty much insisted we helped her to the rainbow bridge. poor Charlie her sister is non the wiser yet, any tips on how to help her gratefully received and a devastated 6 and 10th year old Sad

Has DH brought Lola home for burial? If so, let Charlie give her a farewell sniff. Guinea pigs grieve as they are a herd animal and it is better for them to know a friend isn't coming back.

As for the children, obviously it will be hard. With ours we have made our dearly departed guinea pigs comfy in a shoe box with hay and even a little blanket and had a burial in the garden. On a practical note, the hole has to be really deep to prevent foxes disturbing the grave.

Very Sad.
She had her few extra days after she saw the vet with her fluid retention and as you say you know this was imminent.
The do go downhill quickly so you know that she didn't suffer in the end. Bless her.

Definately let Charlie have a sniff round at Lolas body , she'll know then that she's gone.
And agree with fortified - let your DC do their bit with the burial and wrap her up and put a stone over as well. (Bad enough to have to bury her, worse to find a fox digging her up and leaving the carcass).

We wrapped our cat in a plastic liner and a cloth bag then put a stone ornament over the top.My DC buried her and we made sure they knew she was dead not sleeping. (DC saw her after she was PTS, there was nothing gory).

Are your pigs indoor or outdoor? Will you bring Charlie in at night for a few days to keep a check on her and company / noise from the house?

Oh I've just got in to check in to your news, very sorry to hear about dear Lola, it sounds like you had no choice and she won't be suffering no, bless her. Her partner will grieve and be very lonely, so you can either choose to add to your guinea herd with a couple of girl babies who will love having an older mum again, or think that Charlie will be the last of your guinea pets and make sure she has a very cossetted and interactive life - bring her into the house, make a fuss of her etc, - another tough call to make, though your kids are still very young so a new round of guineas could be a solution?

As for your children, I echo everything fortified has said, a special box, maybe a picture or a poem to put in the box - ours have special stones on top of their graves as a marker. It is very sad for all of you, I know I have cried buckets over all our guineas - but it is a very important way that children learn about death and how to cope with losing someone they love..... bless her, she had good life and was obviously very well loved and cared for. Hope she is enjoying her heavenly field of grass!

yes she came home, special shoe box done and Lola buried, couldn't find Charlie so no sniffing so that may not be so good . going to lavish Charlie now and hold off a few weeks before deciding about adding others or not . dd would not watch the burial she said it was too unfair Sad ds got a bit upset but hey ho - my dad has an indoor cage we can have for the winter tonight we will just have to keep her amused till late.

Charlie has gone all quiet spending time hid in her nesting box when not in our company. she has been in
the house with us a fair bit too and just sat next to me while i watched tv. dd has took to reading her stories and insists she is enjoying them Grin - makes me sad not to see them together trotting about making mischief Sad .

I am sure Charlie will be pining it is so sad for the last lonely one plus it is very hot and humid so she may well be trying to keep cool. You are doing exactly the right thing lots of fuss and attention and stories :)

i am off today and she has been in quite a bit sat on me till she needs a wee or poo then fidgets till i pop her outside and she does one Grin - i am wondering if i got a small cat bed would she sit in it cat like. she is eating anyway and drinking but just not squealing. i do worry tomorrow when i go to work she will be lonely, its early days i suppose.

Do you have an old cuddly toy for her to snuggle? Current Bun has a rabbit and a frog in his basket and he snuggles up to them and grooms them. She will adapt but it's early days yet.

Could you leave a small radio (out of reach) tuned into a talk station?
I left the boars with LBC 97.3 at Guy Fawkes (they were in the small bedroom) to filter out the background noises?
