Tell me about C&C cages

I get the impression this is what I need for our ever expaning young boars!

Where do I get the bits?
Are they easy to build?
Can I get lids (we have cats)
Any advice on arrangement/bedding/...

Ebay if you pop c&c in the search you will get some more options.
You can make a lid from the grids.
You will need some sort of base - correx is very popular but get the thickest you can afford. Again ebay is your friend.
They will come with connectors but I reinforce mine with cable ties too.

BigPig is in the C&C and has the same bedding as LittlePig in the cage. Paper pellets -newspaper-hay.

I love mine! I would have two if space allowed.

Bonkey do you have the different levels (or 'loft' as it's described in one advert) or all one level.

I could see baby guineas using different levels but my lardy adult boars seem to like their paws on terra firma . Though I have had GPs in the past who used ramps quite happily.

This is what we have. Obviously put together differently! I use lino for the base.

I just have one level - 2 by 3 for BigPig. Which is the minimum for a adult and tbh if I could fit bigger he would have bigger! Guide here!

I'm not keen on levels unless the cages are huge and have a enough space for a long ramp so its not so steep.

BigPig wouldn't go up a ramp unless it was tunneled and even then I'm not sure he would make use of it that much - I don't doubt that LittlePig would just out of curiosity. In fact i can almost visions the monster zooming up and down giving me a heart attack....

The grids are great though - I got 36 in my pack.
I got BigPigs cage, a divider for their playpen and a shoe rack/shelves for ds's room made up out of them

Mine will walk down their ramp (from the lid of the haybox) as fast as their little leathery feet (as DD calls them) will carry them , towards the food,

I've seen GP2 venture up the ramp but very rarely. (It's shallow and wide and carpeted- made my DH. They're still very judgey)

BonkeyMollocks where did you get your pack from? I think I need 26 - a 4x2 and a hay loft (although not sure they'll go up the ramp either) I need a lid though.

Maybe I could just go for a 4x2 and see how they get on ....

This could be quite fun :) Need to work out a good place to get the correx, any recommendations?

Just bought my first pack from Grendle. £42.50 for 26 squares plus connectors and cable ties. Free Parcelforce 24 hour delivery. Best I found.

Correx, not sure whether this is good value, maybe someone else can advise. On the guinea pig forum I went on they suggested phoning local sign makers from Yellow pages to ask about a piece of Correx.

For 2 pigs a 4 by 2 is ok, 26 would give you a lid too.

Forgot to add that Grendle also sell single squares so if you wanted a 5 by 2 for more space then you could purchase two extra squares from them in addition to the pack.

Go as big as you can ninja . My boys have a 4'x2' indoor winter cage for night time (my chaps are nearly 3 yo so no shenanigans) but TBH they don't suffer it gladly.

When they go in this cage it's literally just to sleep. They go in at 10pm and out at 6am to their Pighouse (in winter they'll have a heater in their outdoor house)
I put in two boxes of hay so they can have privacy, but by the time they have boxes, a ramekin of pellets and veg (bottle on the side) there's not much room.
There's no scuttling about potential, it's a duvet over the top and Nighty Night.

I had a cage at first, but felt it was too small for my 2 girls (even though it was the recommended size for 2) and Betty started biting the bars which I know is a sign of frustration.
I bought a C&C and love it, it was 4 x 2 but I recently added a 2 x 1 hayloft which reduces the mess of the hay on the fleece on the lower level. I bought a length of guttering and cut it to make a nice long ramp. They only took a day to get used to it.
I bought the correx template from here for £26, as I'd already bought the grids a while before it felt really cheap! They sell C&C kits as well so you could get the whole thing from them.

I'm collecting some second hand grids on Sunday - still looking for reasonable correx, although I might try and get lino instaed.

I'mso excited at building the creation (I have 46 grids so could go wild!)

I have cats, so need to put on a lid, has anybody got advice about how to attach this so it's still easy to have access?

How do you convince your piggies to use the ramp? Mine are deeply suspicious of anything they view as avant-garde. This would definitely be viewed as such.

Re the lid - i would use cable ties to secure it at the back and then clips to close it securely on the front.

That way it should just pull up (do the whole thing or maybe just one grid? Depends on preference really, and how easy your pigs are to catch ) and be easy to use :)

Georgian Have you tried covering the ramp to make a tunnel? Lots are very wary of being open and high and feel more secure covered :)

I put a parsley/cucumber trail up the ramp. Nothing like a peckish greedy piggie to get them moving up the ramp. Also I've lined it with lino to give them a bit more grip

I was going to try and put their food upstairs to tempt them there

Just aquired a rabbit, so now need to get it an equally happy home!!
