going on holiday guinea and rabbit care?

We are going away for a week and my mum is looking after all the small animals what do you think are the easiest vegetables that I can leave in my fridge she can give the guineas for the week ? The bunnys will be fine with carrot and broccoli which is easy for her just to pop in don't want her to have to do to much as she has seven pets to see to :)

Celery is good, doesn't even have to be in the fridge, breaks off easily. My guineas love it best

I give them that now but was told it had to be chopped so they didn't choke on the string do you chop ?

Cabbage and tomatoes?

I sometimes chop celery - I know you're supposed to, but my boys seem to manage it fine - they chop it fairly thoroughly themselves.

7 pets! What kind does your mum have? Do you have siblings with zoos as well?

Parsley is my guinea girls drug of choice!

Iceberg lettuce keeps well, they love apple and celery, cabbage, broccoli, outside leaves of cauliflower, spinach leaves (doesn't keep too well, but if she wants to get on their good side in the first couple of days ......).

Am so glad a MN friend is house-sitting for us in the summer! We have a house-rabbit, 4 guinea girls and a hamster!

I'd never heard about the chopping celery thing - I'll look that up, oops. They seem to manage fine though.

I often ask out veg shop for scrap, so outside of cauliflower which they really like, but there could be carrots, apples in there too. Mine eat so much it saves a fortune!

Celery is meant to be chopped . But my spoiled pigs only like the leaves so I hoik out the centre stems (the leafy ones) that are more tender.

Will your pigs be out in their run? If not can your mum cut some grass for them - they'll love her forever

Bananas keep well (not in the fridge though)

Peelings from dinner- carrot peel and tops, parsnip peel?

My DH will be on GP duty during the May week holiday (I'll have to leave him a list )

Would it be easier for your Mum to keep the veg in Her fridge then she can chop up some veg for all the furries and take it with her?
Don't keep it too long after it's chopped (it can ferment a bit- especially brassicas and root veg).

No pigs will be inside along with 2 bunnys 1 hamster 2 fish we take the dog with us :)as for my mum she just has a budgie its me with the 8 pets and my sister just has a dog

My mum would never remember to bring vegetables with her if she left it at her house or have room in her fridge !
I didn't think they could eat iceberg or cabbage ??

When we go away, I always leave a celery, bag of carrots, a cucumber & enough apples for one a day.

It is not hugely exciting and some of their favourites are missing, but they are all easy to cut up and will all last the week as well.

I don't ever give mine iceberg, as I thought it was too watery or something like that. I'm sure the odd bit wouldn't kill them, but I don't think you're supposed to give it them regularly.

Iceberg isn't recommended because it's too watery.
They can have other lettucey types like Little Gem, Red Cabbage, Romaine, Pak Choi,lambs lettuce, peashoots
I buy a salad bag for the hogs and they have a small amount (but without iceberg)

Things like cabbage, cauli leaves, brocilli - only small amounts, it gives them wind- which might just be horrible gas in the case of my Abby boar or can give them bloat 9which can be fatal)
Though I'd guess there's more risk if they have alot or if it's 'old' and fermented.

Make sure your mum checks for any bits of food hidden in the bedding, it can go off.

Oh, I forgot to add Corn-on-the-Cob to the list. GP2 loves it, lasts ages.

There won't be any food left in the bedding they are to gready for that ! :)
