Anyone else off their carrots?

That says it all really. Not sure if its a knock on effect of the wet winter or my guinea girls staging a protect against Tesco .

Lately alot of carrots are being wasted in the fortified hutch.

Anyone else got a picky guinea or bun?

My two went through a stage of not liking carrots ....

I thought it may be overload so stopped for a while - then bought carrots with the tops on and gave them one each. They both very delicately snaffled the tops and made teeth patterns in the carrots

My boars aren't really carrot pigs either.
I put one in their bowl so that once they've scoffed their favourites then there's always something.
They love the carrots with leaves though

(Mine have veg from Sainsburys so I think it's carrots in general. Are GPs politically active when it comes to supermarkets?

My guinea-pigs wear Real Fur and they KNOW I don't approve)

My pigs aren't fussed on carrot (love carrot leaves though) but will eat it if it's all I give them - cue many judgey looks and outraged wheeking

Current Bun loves his evening carrot and sometimes carries it around with him so he can eat it in his basket. Previous Bun would never touch carrot, apparently it was evil. She loved the leaves though and always had some for breakfast.

70 Current Bun wears Real Fur and he keeps leaving large amounts of it on us - we think he's trying to get us wear Fur as well. He won't win.

Old Boy and his brother were brought up on Marks and Spencer carrots. DH went on an economy drive and bought value carrots from Tesco and they refused to touch them. We couldn't tell the difference .

Not wanting to make the same error again, we have brought up current piggies on cheaper veg. Turning their noses up is a recent thing.

Will give carrots a miss for afew days. Maybe then, carrots will seem exciting again

Tried Naughty Girl on tea yesterday as I had a cuppa and she was snuffling my neck. I took that as a sign she wanted some. Wrong! Naughty is not a tea drinking pig .

Maybe Naughty would prefer something stronger to drink

Aww, she does like grapes, maybe a or a fortifiedwine small sherry before cabbage

GP2 loves grapes but I'm sure they ferment in his little rodenty stomach and make him sozzled

Our doe loves carrots, the buck hates them and only eats dandelions

My guinea pigs I had as a child used to go mental for melon skin (we ate the flesh and put a small amount of skin in the run) might be worth a try, without the flesh they won't get the runs, ours never did.

Melon skin is very nom nom to guinea I agree. Ours are spoilt and get the flesh as well .

Carrot eating has been restored but only if whole. They no longer like cutted up carrot .

Funny little souls aren't they..... mine would mysteriously 'go off carrots' and I wondered if they were just too big for them to cope with, tried cutted up ones, they wouldn't touch them. They must love the sensation of ripping into a big carrot to keep their teeth sharp and busy, and not actually swallow the flesh they have bitten - a friend used to bring ours cabbage leaves, organic, grown on his allotment, sometimes they would be devoured like it was the last meal on earth, and other times it was ignored, peed on and left to go off < vile cabbage smells errupting from hutch>.

Guineapiglet I know just what you mean. Nothing quite matches the smell of pee'd on cabbage. Great when they live pride of place in the living room.

BTW DD1 brought home a boy for the first time last week. The first thing he noticed was the huge hutch in the room. He's not sure whether I'm a legend or mad. I'm keeping him guessing

Why Fortified, you are a legend, of course!!!

At primary school my kids would bring their friends home and the guineas were a great source of entertainment, up and down the stairs, herding them round the garden, cuddling them - the guineas loved being the centre of attention. I could often be spotted on rainy windswept days ( of which there were many!) out with my binbag filling it up with grass and dandelions ready for the gang to chomp.

'See you're out again!' neighbours would shout ...'they must be hungry'.
No. they are greedy little monsters who can devour a binbag full of grass in less than a day!! :)

guineapiglet - rainy, windswept days - can't believe you ever had any of those up here . I can tell you, it's a barmy 10 degrees today, we're all out in our shorts enjoying the light drizzle.
