Guinea pig rescues?

Hi all, I am currently looking into adopting a group/pair of rescue guineas. Has anyone got any recommendations for shelters in the York/north Yorkshire area. I really don't want to go to pets at home. Thanks

Kritiq posted on a thread recently about a guinea pig magazine which specialised in rescues, - I am sure if you look at the magazine back copies there may be some helpful advice. Ask at local vets also who may be able to recommend as vets usually 'offload' pets to local rescues for various reasons.

If you havent got any guinea equipment try gumtree or freecycle for spare hutches, runs etc, people often have stuff to get rid of which is very usuable....

Otheregos I got my fur babies by Googling Guinea-Pig Rescues (I'm in Essex) then looking on their websites. Read up what their homing policies are.

Work out what your hogs will need and get as much organised in advance.
They might want to do a home--check.
You might have to wait for 'your' guinea-pigs to be available. (might be quarentined or too young to rehome)
Phone a few rescues (I don't know York area but there must be some I'm sure).
Get an idea from talking to them. You might have to wait a while for them to get back to you. A lot of rescue animals are in volunteer foster homes.

(After all this advice, the nearest GP rescue to me was 25 miles and I didn't fancy a 50 mile round trip. So I phoned a Rabbit Rescue nearby to see if they happened to get any guinea-pigs handed in.
My DD wanted boars. So we got the Little Boys )

intheshed that guineapigrehome link has a rehoming for 5 boars (swan,raven,goose,finch and sparrow) who were 'left' outside a rescue in a carrier

I thought it was a carrier bag but it might have been a cat carrier type thing. And I suppose leaving them outside a rescue would be a (fairly) responsible move. At least they'd get found, not like these people who leave them at the side of the road or let them go 'wild'.

(They could've taken the pigs into the rescue but I don't know the full story. Still though)
