Are there any rescue places for hamsters?

My DD would love a hamster for her birthday, ideally an unwanted one who needs a home.

My local pets at home does animal adoptions, they sometimes have hamsters and other small animals in there.

But remember, hamsters are the devils pet mine thought she was a pit bull and I have the scars to prove it. Gerbils however are fantastic and much more interesting

Oh bless! I wouldn't think there'd be a specific hamster rescue place, but you might be able to find a general one that caters for small animals.

Hamsters only live a couple of years though, so you don't want to get one that's going to pop its tiny clogs too soon after you bring it home.

Try the RSPCA or pop onto hamsterfanaticforum and pop by their re-homeing section. I have lots of animal shelters by me (think cats dogs, rabbits etc) that take hammys too!

Sadly lots of these little fluffys get left in rescue centres/foster homes etc because people get bored. Many people don't want to re-home them because of their life span but many are still only a few months old just left because they are 'too old to be cute' 'too old to be sold' .

Its a great thing to take in a rescue animal!

And not all hammys are devils , my girl was the loveliest character, and she lived near enough two years. Devastated I was when she went!

when I was a young girl we always had hamsters and we had 2 gerbils. My Mum says the first hamster we got arrived via train and had to be collected from the station!
