I may possibly have some going spare in a week or two .

Just looked on yahoo and it says they can. And it is good for them as is squash xx

You will soon find out if they like it! Just give them a small bit to start with - they will either devour it or spit it out - and wait to see if there are any adverse results, I guess most food should be introduced slowly, but with guineas most food is devoured greedily, Im sure half the time they dont know what they are eating :) it must be good for them as is very nutritious for us - let us know how it goes!

Oooh, I'd imagine it's quite good 'fattening' food for guineas.
I'll try it out on them (but I'm not doing a pumpkin lantern, I've got a lovely metal one)
I can buy one, roast the flesh and make soup- keeping a slice back for the boys.

I hope they can (I didn't think of it actually) as my DG want a pumpkin lantern but no-one in our house likes pumpkin. I usually compost it, but will try giving it to the pigs.

I tried mine with it - it's the only thing I've found (including buttons, sleeves etc) that they wouldn't even try.

Wow - Im amazed they have eaten it - good for them it will be very nutritious. I think of all the pumpkins I have thrown away over the years. Guineas do have strange taste buds, and they are all so different, my friend's girls just devoured red pepper, mine loathed it and turned their noses up whenever they could smell it. Mine couldnt eat enough curly kale, and the visiting guineas refused to eat it! My girls wolfed down banana skins but didnt eat the banana, which the other girls did. Result!

We tried ours on a sweet clementine yesterday. GP1 scoffed his. GP2 ate the membraney bit and left the segment pulp. (Thanks GP2- I was cuddling you at the time)

Oh such fickle rodents they are! DBoar 1 is on a special low calcium diet, but isn't keen on any of the high vitamin C low calcium veggies like broccoli or red pepper. DBoar 2 doesn't mind though - extra rations for him!

Hi been off line all week. Hubby been in Germany and took his pc with him. Yes the girlie pigs loved the pumpkin. But Old Boy just gave it a sniff and a lick and decided it was too new fangled for him [hhmm].

I love the idea of pumpkin being too new and fangles for OB.

They had tiny little Munchkin Pumpkins in Sainsburys - about the size of an apple.
That would blow a fuse in OBs brain and make him go all "Whhhhhhaaaaaaaat" like a cavy Stephen Fry!

I know 70 he's only just following the 'young things' in eating large sweetcorn instead of baby sweetcorn.

Although his latest trick is to neck the dregs of my straight out the mug. I won't even allow my kids to drink tea. I cann't have a guinea pig addicted too. Also now having to put the dishwasher on very hot circle [vom emoticon].

My very first guineas (in 1975) used to drink the dregs of my dad's tea. (Milk and one sugar) my dad always left an inch of tea out of habit (when he used to use leaf tea).
The guineas never spilt a drop, their little necks stretched like giraffes.
The sow was a Himmy who would wait til her mate (my GP who was meant to be female but wasn't) had tried it, then she'd bully him away.
One day she went out to find her own and shoved her nose into a fresh cup - only once.

I know they're not meant to have sugar/milk, but she lived to be 6yo !

Currant boars GP1 likes a bite of Cornetto cone.
And GP2 licks DH hand if he's had Chilli Heatwave Dorittos .

My first bunny (when I was 6) used to have the contents of a used teabag spread on bread most days. They aren't supposed to have bread and I'm not sure about the tea but she lived to be nearly 10!

Not tried the GP's with tea but they did enjoy the ketchup that the DC spilt on the floor. They particularly like anything that the rabbit has - if they could put posters of him on their wall, they would.
