Clearly visible bone on dwarf hamster!

One of my dwarf hamsters has a hole to its bone, by its neck/back area- yo can see it moving, and it's obviously deep- but no blood. It's a small, rough circle, looks clean, no dried blood. It's in no clear pain, eats happily, drinks its water, spun on its wheel and in the ball, and it was only noticed properly when I petted it.

I'm pretty certain I should call the vet, but can it wait until the morning? If it needed antiseptic or something, then I'd pay for it obviously, however small, he's still my pet and needs to be cared for, but can they actually do anything?

Sounds like you can leave it until morning - sounds odd though - how do you think it happened? I am assuming no limbs are swinging in the breeze or anything like that, no breathing problems etc

No breathing problems, nothing. He just ate a tiny bit of apple, and is now chewing happily on a mineral block. I think he might have caught it on something rough when in his ball, or, because I've recently taken hard bits out of woodshavings- very hard bits- a bit escaped my eye and nicked it badly. It can't be fighting, he's a lone hamster (his friend died a while ago).

He seems to be fine, like I said, so I think I'll call the vet to see what they say and consult the Hamster Bible (well, the RSPCA Guide to Hamsters).

Did you manage to take him today?

Took him Tuesday afternoon. He had it bathed in antiseptic, to stop infections, and give a patch of something or other, a really teeny tiny patch, because the skin wouldn't otherwise grow back, because we noticed suddenly that, possibly due to movement, it was sticking up. In the morning, arranged vet visit, was ready to go then but had to leave for work at 6:30 (live a long way from work), so took him as soon as I came back to the appointment
