Why can't you have pet Hares ?

I don't think there are any domesticated hares. How about a really long eared rabbit?

It takes centuries of selective breeding to domesticate an animal properly. Any hare you bought would be miserable, prone to aggression and an escape artist.

^ yup! I found Belgian hares - which on reading are actually rabbits that are made to look like hares!
