my poor bunnys im fuming.

We bought 2 rabbits from pets at home (it would be two weeks Wednesday).
We bought a lovely huge hutch two story.
They had everything they needed, hay, pellets, fresh water, a few toys.
The Sunday after we got them one off the rabbits fitted and then passed away.
We were all shocked tbh, so I placed her in the box we brought her home in with some straw (even though she was gone it felt right to make her comfy).
I cleaned the whole hutch and used rabbit safe detergent and put everything fresh, cleaned the water bottles ect.
Pets at home would not do noting as it was out of warranty.
Any way now the other rabbit has started to have a runny eye and runny nose (I have been cleaning the eye with cooled boiled water as the nose was fine then)
And now she is not eating : (.

I will be taken her to the vets tomorrow, I'm just disappointed with pets at home two poorly rabbits in a week of buying them.
I will never get anything from them again!

Is she a vaccinated bunny?

I think they were not in great health when you got them, and AFAIK like any other faulty purchase you should be able to get it put right.

No they was not vac, but I did not even have the time to get them vac!
To just die after 3 days of having bought her and the other one being poorly only after a week it seems they were in bad health.
They were only 8 weeks when bought.
I have read online about the store and I wished I read up on them before I bought them.

PAH have a really, really bad reputation regarding the livestock they sell and how it is bred. Just one link of hundreds you can find on Google about them:-

I have no experience of rabbits but I have bought fish from Pets At Home. They too died within a couple of days. And yes, I had tested the water etc (they also tested the water in store and said it was fine)

Never again will I buy anything from them

Are they outdoor rabbits? It could be myxomatosis, mosquitoes can spread the disease and all outdoor rabbits should be vaccinated against it.

What is the length of their warrenty if a rabbit bought on a Wednesday dies on the following Sunday?
And ,what is the point of their warrenty?

There was a thread a few weeks back about their "VIP" rabbits that are imported and neutered at a ridiculously young age.

Get your rabbit No2 to the vets as soon as you can Sad.

You are much calmer than I would be- I'd be down there with the dead bunny in a box demanding to see the manager. And I'd be in the queue making sure I was seen and questions answered.And I'd want to know if anyone else had reported an ill rabbit from the group /shipment that your rabbits came from.
And if it put some people off buying rabbits there, then all too the good.

never, ever buy anything live from pets at home.

seriously. aside from anything else there are literally hundreds of rabbits needing to be rehomed, plenty of whom will be used to being handled and will be vaccinated and neutered.
so if you're thinking of replacing your poor buns then I would definitely consider rehoming some.

i would also be going into pets at home and kicking up one hell of a stink

VHD vaccine at 12 weeks
Myxie at 6 weeks
(according to Rabbit Re-Home. I don't have bunnies I've got GPs who don't need vaccine)

Were they neutered when you bought them?
Does neutering a very young rabbit cause this sort of problems (fitting, eye/nose discharge or non-eating)

If they were 8 weeks ,did they already have their 1st Myxie vaccination?

No these rabbits was not VIP ones so not had any vats ect.
Was just in the process of sorting vats ect out when the first one died.
You only get a one day warranty with them.

1 day warranty is ridiculous. Sounds very much like they were ill when you got them.

I'm sure it does vary from one store to another though, I've had 2 hamsters (not at the same time) from pets at home who lived long and happy lives (well, for hamsters anyway) and I've currently got a house rabbit who will be 8 at the end of July.

I bought a baby guinea pig from Pets At Home a few years ago. 48 hours later it got an we infection, so I phoned them and asked who their vet was because I wasn't paying the bill,so I'd take her where they had an account. They did agree to pay it, I think partly because I had commented that another one of the GPs in the pen had a bad eye when we were choosing her, and the manager remembered that when I spoke to him!

The P@H guineas (we tend to only look at GPs TBH) are on shavings with hay.
They climb all over each other to get into the igloos or the water bottles- fair enough, they are babies and that's how they behave.
But the combination of the shavings, the sheer number of them in an enclosure, the risk of trauma and the fact they are now imported would IMHO increase the risk of eye infection.

I'm going to write a heavy worded letter to there HQ, I just wish I was not so stupid to not research the compony before purchessing them.
The staff could not even tell me there breed!

It's ridiculous isn't it?
I'd imagine (as I said I'm not a bunny person) that baby bunnies look fairly similar, but the breeds have different needs when they are adult. You want to know what kind of size and temprement your rabbit will have really.

They had baby guineas in our local P@H that had all different coat types and if someone ended up with a Peruvian, they'd have to cope with daily grooming and regular washing (I bought one when I was 20ish and they are hard work. Didn't know she was Peruvian at the time)

Went to the vets today, she has antibiotic eye drops and by mouth antibiotics.
The vet said that her mouth and teeth are fine, also tummy and her rear are fine.
So it's a waiting game to see if the meds do the trick fingers cross.

Corster - were you give probiotics to give to your GP 2 hours after giving antibiotics? The probiotics are essential. If you did not get any phone the vet and ask for them. They come in daily sachets that cost very little and safeguard your GP from getting an upset stomach as a side effect of the antiobiotics that can make them very very poorly.

i have rabbits when mine dont eat i give them pineapple juice through a medicine syringe,we were going to buy from pets at home we choose which ones we wanted and then when they picked the rabbits up they had flys on their bottoms!!!!so we bought from rehoming and private off gumtree.much cheaper

Thanks for your replys.

George went back to the vets today as she had got worse, her breathing was very bad.
George was put to sleep as the vet said that the only other option was being hospitalized and considering she had got so down hill on the antibiotics already given it was very unlikely it would of helped ESP the stress of being somewhere else as well.

Totally gutted the whole family are : (
R.I.P George only had you for a short time but you will be remembered.
