I'm very sad, didnt notice until kids were at school, she was the first one we got and unknown to us was pregnant, we kept the babies, we had 5 of them in the end, im just gutted. I couldnt even move her out the cage, had to phone my brother to come and do it for me, shes in a shoe box in the shed, she was only 2 and a half. What do i do with her now? and how do i tell the kids?

I'd just be honest with the kids, when ours died ds wanted to see her then he found a box to put her in and together we buried her, he was 6 at the time.

Sad.
I'd also agree with honesty with your DCs. Not that she is 'sleeping'. My DCs took a while to come to terms with our cat never coming back, but they knew from the outset that she was dead (no false hope). They helped to bury her. Maybe your DC can choose a place for her (not easy if the ground is solid though) .Put her little body under a slab or in a plastic bag though. Your children would be devastated if a fox dug her up .

There have been a few guinea-pig RIP threads on recently on MN. I don't know if it's time of year?

Sorry to hear about your loss. Another fluffy angel gone to the rainbow bridge.

I think it is important to be honest with children at the level they can understand when a pet, or a human they know for that matter, has died. I think I was lucky in some ways, growing up in a rural area, that I experienced loss from a pretty young age and realised it was a part of life we all have to deal with.

RIP little sow.
