Guinea pig emergency. Please HELP!

We have a disaster! Lola the guinea pig has a Hama bead stuck on her bottom teeth! The vet is closed.... it's been there a few days, what do we do?!

Have you tried levering it off with a finger nail or something?

Hi, yes she is eating, I have tried getting it off but it's firmly wedged on! tried tweezers but she won't stay still enough

She may need sedation. I'm sorry but I think short of a tiny grinder you may need the vet. It's not an emergency as long as she is eating and drinking.

Guinea pigs teeth re-grow (they are rodents) so it may be possible to cut the tooth (and the one next to it) short to get the bead off - but would leave that as a job for the vet!

Good luck - I'm sure she'll be fine. One of my GPs got an acorn stuck on her tooth for about 36 hours (she hid it well and her fur is the same colour) and she was fine.
if you havent gone off to the vets yet, do help her drink as she probably can't get enough as the bead will be in the way of her sucking action...

Phew, all sorted! The vet thought it was hilarious and asked if he could take a picture!
They pulled it off without too much squeaking, I'm 20 pounds lighter, but Lola is happy

Did he take the photo? he'll probably send it off to be printed in one of the veterinary journals!

I've been desperate to ask, what colour was it?

Glad Lola is happy - this thread made me smile as DD2 managed to do that herself when she was 2 - gave me a big smile with an aqua blue Hama bead stuck on one of her bottom teeth! (She had tiny baby teeth)

Note to self: I won't buy Hama beads for DD.
I'm sure my GPs would eat them too .They have a go at anything.

The little pull thing on my fleece zip is a favourite of GP1.

Ouch about the £20, but you couldn't really have left her like that.

She'll be in the Guinea-Pig Lancet with one of those black rectangles across her eyes to protect her identity.

Glad she is ok! If it makes you feel better I have been called out at 11pm once to remove a drawing pin from between a dogs teeth. You are not alone. And I bet the vet was happy to be able to effect a happy ending simply

I'm a bit late to be of any help but if you need to calm a wriggly G-pig you can try towel wrapping them. IIRC it's basically swaddling with a pillowcase. The actual technique is probably google-able but I saw them demonstrate it at the Cambridge Cavy Trust many years ago, they were trimming teeth without anaeshetic by towel wrapping, was very clever .

And I didn't chuckle about the Hama bead, honest .

I'm extremely paranoid right now, gave my guinea pig a bath and noticed something on her bottom tooth. It looked green(noticed this before, but I forget when..her previous owners had kids). I do have beads in my house. The once that you iron on a pegboard. I looked closely and I think a bead's stuck in her bottom tooth..she let me look at it, but was shaky. She's eating fine and drinking..just afraid about pulling it out..I don't want to hurt her or break that tooth. Please help?

If it really if a bead I think a trip to the vets is the only answer. Good luck, hope your guinea pig is ok.

Sammie - you can't do much at this time of night vet wise (unless there's an emergency vet)
GPs don't like having their mouths opened against their will but are you sure it;s a bead?

I've grasped things like long strands of hay/grass that have got stuck in GP1 teeth , he was gagging and pawing at his mouth. I was alone, had to put him between my knees so he couldn't back up, grasp his muzzle with one hand and hoik it out with tweezers. He had no options .

They can break teeth on the cage bars, they'll grow back.

If she's eating then it sounds like she's not bothered by it.
