I think my bunny is depressed.

He's a house rabbit and just hasn't been the same since DS was born six months ago. He doesn't want strokes, won't bounce around the house like he used to, has dropped his food intake and generally just sits in his house moping.

Is there anything I can do to cheer him up? :(

Perhaps he needs a friend of the bunny sort. It may be that he feels your attention is drawn away to the baby and other things. Rabbits are social animals, so if he's not getting to socialise as much, he could get depressed. Might be worth getting a vet check though to see if there's anything untoward. A neutered lady friend might do the trick.

I would love to get him a ladyfriend but I simply do not have the space. He has a house which is plenty big enough for him but it would be a squash for two buns and we don't have room to put a bigger one.

I'm going to take him to the vet for a check up and mani/pedi.

His teeth might be bothering him? I'd take him to the vet for a check over. Rabbits are known for needing their teeth filed and tooth pain would be my first thought in a bunny that's stopped eating.

My two house bunnies are inseparable. They lie down next to each other all the time or follow each other round the house. My bet is that he is lonely. Rabbits are such social creatures.

Does he really need a house if he is a house rabbit? Couldn't two bunnies have a basket to sleep in? Or just lie on the floor?

Yes to getting him checked over by the vet of course. As Viva says it might be his teeth.

I prefer having him in a house so I know he's safe and secure when we're not around (he's a chewer). We have bunny proofed but I will not take the risk of him hunting out a wire. There is also the hygiene aspect to consider now that DS is 6mo and starting to attempt to crawl.

I should add he is a rescue who has never lived with another bun. I'm scared of getting him a girlfriend in case they don't get along and I end up with two unhappy bunnies.
