One of my Piggies has died :(

I feel pathetic but I am absolutly gutted :( My piggie Coco had died :( I cant even get her out, have to wait for DH to get back. So pathetic. She was my favourite nibbly piggie. Shes only 9 months. What have I done wrong :( I dote on my pets. We only started mixing the two sets (2 9 months and 2 5 months) a couple of days ago. She wasnt interested much in the new two, but was still squeeky and purring, still eating and drinking. Could Cookie have killed her? do pigs do that? My poor Coco :( :( :(

Aww, I'm sorry :( I'd be really upset if one of my girlies died. You poor thing. When is your DH coming home?

4 hopefully. Ive divided the hutch up so Cookie cant see/get to her. will strip it all down and disinfect it tonight. She had become so much more tame the last few days, thought the hard work was paying off.....she must have just been feeling poorly. :(

Oh no, so sorry to hear this :( Totally not pathetic. I've only had my piggies a week and a bit and already I'm totally besotted. Can't imagine losing either of them.

Can you take her to the vet for a post-mortem - I don't know if vets do this but might at least give a hint in case its something infectious?

DH is going to book them all in today for a check over, with his hours it wont be until Sunday though :( i dont drive and juggling two young hobbits and three piggies in a taxi/bus would be impossible.

Awww I hope the check up goes well. Totally agree, by taxi with kids in tow would be a nightmare and would end up stressing you all out.

I had to tell ds1 off yesterday - without me realising he'd gone an organised a mini petting zoo with 4 neighbourhood kids all crowding around the hutch . They were timid little things before, now they're absolutely terrified - am back to square one trying to coax them out to go in their run. Feel fiercely protective of the poor little things. Can hardly believe they've only been around since last Tuesday!

DH had a good look over her, she had a big patch on one side with no fur on, no mites on her,or on Cookie. That wasnt there yesterday morning when i had a cuddle with them, and DH didnt notice anything last night when he went to them. DH said she looked nibbled at. Would Cookie have done that after she had died? Has she nibbled her to death? Very worried now, i have only just started mixing my two sets of girls, do i keep trying to mix Cookie with the younger two? Got to go and disinfect the hutches and have a good check for 'anything'. :(

I had three gp girls to begin with. Two from one litter and one from another. I was told in no uncertain terms I'd be ok to mix them. Against my better judgement I did and the singleton died shortly afterwards. I strongly suspect she was killed by the other two

Don't know the answer, BabyDubs - you could ask on www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/index.php - I don't know if you're already on there, but they seem a knowledgeable lot. There's quite a few rescue peeps on there too who could advise about mixing her with the others.

I'm so sorry to hear about your piggie dying. I don't think piggies kill each other they are so gentle. We had two and then added two rescue sister pigs last year and the worse that happened was a bit of alpha pig behaviour.

One of ours died on Wednesday and I am still a complete wreck. We had four indoor pigs. Checked on them on Wednesday morning and knew there was something wrong straight away as she would not eat or come out of her hut. She was a bit cold and very floppy. I was in the middle of arranging to take her to the vet straight away when she had a fit and died in my arms. No illness...no warning...and our pigs are treated like goddesses as we are besotted with them.
