How long did your guinea pig live for?

And does it make a difference if they are kept indoors or outdoors?

Have read they live between 4-8 years which seems a huge difference in how long they can live?

My longest lived one so far lived for 7.5 years. No idea why he lived longer than the others.

7 1/2 years both lived indoors. I know of friends outside GPs that died a lot earlier.

Over a period of years when I was a child we had 12 gpigs.Four boy babies we rehomed, one female we kept, she was about 7. (Accidental litter we were told the parents were girls, obviously not).Lived inside winter, outside summer in a very heavy solid hutch with shelter. I had smooth,Abysynian and the long haired (are they Peruvian? can't remember) but alot of combing!
Dad GPig didn't make his 2nd birthday as his wifey GPig bit him and he ran into the wall, got concussed and vet reckoned that killed him

Our 2 boy ones live inside all year round but spend alot of the summer in a run in the back garden. They then come in for the night.
They are 4 this month.

My eldest two were nine (rescued, but we knew they were three when we got them), both died recently. The two I have left are five. The ones I had when I was younger didn't live as long, probably because we kept them on sawdust and fed them that crap mixed food.

I now only feed them unsprayed hay, the occasional organic vegetable and bit of carob, and they're bedded on hemp or cardboard.
