I've been the proud owner of two guinea pigs for only 2 weeks.
We noticed he was ill last week and took him to the vets where he was diagnosed with a respiratory infection. He was given an injection and we had to give him some antibiotic medicine every day.
He perked up a little but has still been off. His breathing was very raspy and you could see his little lungs moving very fast.

I was going to take him to the vets again today but he was dead when i checked this morning :(

Does anyone have any exoerience of poorly GPs? Could it have been his heart rather than an infection? Would I be able to speak to the vet and get her opinion do you think?

Then problem with GPs is that when they start to go down, they go fast! They really don't cope with being ill.

I don't know what would have killed him, tbh. I guess you can see the vet & ask if they could look into it, but would it really do any good?

I am so sorry. We have lots 2 over the last year & the last one we have is slowing down, but they were approx 4yrs, which isn't bad!

You have my sympathy!

Oh I'm so sorry, it's horrible to lose a pet, especially after only 2 weeks!

You can pay to have a post mortem done at the vets, we did when one of our girls died suddenly, as we were worried it may have been a disease that the others could have too, so we could at least treat them. Think it cost us about £40 so if you're willing to pay that to know then just ask the vet.

Guinea pigs are prey animals, so when they're sick they hide it until they really can't any more. If they didn't, they would be the first picked off by a predator. Infuriating when our lovely pets do it though, as then we don't know they need help, and sometimes we don't find out until it's too late :(
Usually by the time you spot something is wrong they're so so ill, so even prompt vet treatment etc may not help, they can just be too far gone.

Again sorry for your loss
