our lovely dwarf russian has had more hamster pups today! her first litter are only 3 wks old Sad

the first litter were a total suprise because we thought that we had 2 boys Grin so we moved Dad out the same day that we found them (they were a few days old)

she has become pregnant again immediately, i know they are only pregnant for 18-21 days and we suspected she was pregnant this time because she got fatter Hmm

we have gone from one hamster cage to three ....... aaarrgghhhh

BUT the pups are as cute as can be Smile

We ended up with 52 Russian Dwerf hamsters once. We ended up giving them all to a pet shop.

When do you have to sperate the pups, you could have many many more soon!

It's SO hard to sex them at the 'crucial' stage - it must have been like a bloody Roman orgy come nightfall Grin

OMG 52 Shock
the pups are 3 weeks old and need to be seperated in the next week - we have homes for them already

Fio i have left the dead one there as there is a difference of opinion

  1. leave it and mommy hamster will do what is needed
  2. remove it and risk her harming the others because your scent is on them Hmm so i have decided to leave it for the moment and re-look in a few days/week & reconsider taking it out then if its still there IYKWIM

yes the newborns are super, they are very noisy and 'cheep' like birds. have had a look and i think there are still 9.
they will be 14 days old on wed so may come out of the nest then Smile

Just make sure you sex the pups properly otherwise they'll be an explosion. Yup, rodents breed back to back so as soon as she gave birth she will have mated again.

piratecat · 15/03/2011 10:49

oh god they are too cute, daddy looks like a little toy hamster!!!

aristocat · 17/03/2011 19:45
