I am fostering 2 rabbits for an animal rescue charity. I have had them 2 weeks. they are a doe approx 2yrs and buck approx 11wks. Checked by vet last week and assured that baby wasnt sexually mature - the doe was booked in for spaying next week.
I went to feed them this morning and there are new babies!!
I havent disturbed the nest but i can see it moving.
I have taken the 11wk old out incase mum sees him as a threat and kills the new babies.
I have given extra food and extra hay and stayed well away for now.
Is there anything else i need to know/do?
Thanks

You did the right thing taking the buck out. At 11 weeks I would doubt that he is the father. Rabbit pregnancies take 4 weeks, so he would have been 7 weeks old!! I've had plenty of baby rabbits, and included messing up on the first lot, and put the males with a female each. There were no babies, and the buck was 14 weeks.

There is nothing that you really need to do, other than give the doe as much food as she wants. As you've not had the doe long I would leave well alone, unless she seems comfortable with you being there. If you do touch them, make sure you rub your hands in the hay, to mask your scent.

Animal rescue are much more knowledgeable than me, so hope I've not taught you how to suck eggs!

Pleased to help. Hope that all goes well. Let me know how you get on with them.

When they start to come out at 3 weeks old, they are the cutest things you've ever seen!
