People may remember my previous posting regarding caring for my friend's guinea. Well she gave birth yesterday but to our total horror they are all dead. We knew the birth was soon by the size of her, went to the hutch yesterday morning around 7am and there were 4 beautiful but dead guineas. We are in shock. What on earth went wrong??? I had followed all the guidance from the multitude of books I have bought since taking on this responsibility yet still this has happened. Three of them were perfect, one did not look quite right and alot smaller. Your advice would be much appreciated. We had a little funeral for them and my daughter and her friends sobbed, its all been so sad.

Oh dear Sad No idea what happened though. I think sometimes animals like that do eat their young if they are stressed in some way - is it possible the mother was resonsible - perhaps freaked out by the little one's imperfection?

I thought she would have eaten them but she hadn't. They were all intact!! Apart from the smallest one who just looked very skinny, almost concave.

are they outside? If you're anywhere near me then it's suddenly got cold, and it could be that either the cold got them, or the mother killed them, thinking they may well die anyway and also to seserve her own energy for her own survival.
