Guinea Pig wars

I have 4 guinea pigs all of whom got on well until recently. There seems to have been some kind of fall out between the two oldest and one of them appears to be bullying the other. We have moved him to another cage but each time we try and put him back in the run with the others a fight breaks out. Please help!!!

Bigger cage?

slipperandpjsmum · 25/08/2010 20:51

Its massive, three floors - 6 foot run and we let them out in the garden most days. Any other ideas?

But they all got on really well for about 6 months now, no problems at all. Can this happen? Suddenly one day there is a big fall out? Its like the Big Brother house!!

Naughty step?

My piggies have only been narky when I introduced a new one. We've not experience it kicking off once they've been living together for a while.

We have 4 gps - 2 pairs of brothers who had been together since birth, but after about 4 months we had to split them into 2 separate cages due to fighting. Its all about dominance as they get older.
It took a bit of swapping around but we eventually found a combination of pairs that is peaceful.
I asked about getting the most dominant one castrated thinking it would sort the problem but the general opinion was al that would happen is the next in line would take over.

I think depending on the gps involved - some males you can keep together, and some you can't. They are very different little 'people'.

6 foot run doesn't sound big enough, tbh. The GPs I look after are just 2 in a run that is 3x5 foot (so 15 square foot) -- and that is barely big enough for those 2 males to get along. I imagine you need 30 foot square for 4 GPs.
