Is there any fee rehab in the UK or is it all private and costs a bomb? Being told my a friend there’s no free rehab unless you jump through hurdles

My brother was sent to Rehab down in Stoke on Trent free for a week on the NHS via Horizons for his alcohol addiction and there were people there for drugs as well. Some had paid, some NHS. Took agggges to get approved for funding but seems to have worked for him.

Yes there are, but you do have to 'jump through hurdles' IE work with substance misuse services and demonstrate commitment to the programme. Sounds like your friend isn't ready for rehab.

Yes, of course there are ‘hurdles’. The state isn’t going to pay for treatment for people unless it is appropriate and got a reasonable chance of being effective. The person has to be ready for rehab or it’s just a waste of money.

There absolutely are. As for jumping through hurdles, there are criteria which you need to meet for you to be eligible but there is also a major shortage of beds and so the chances of getting the required help in rehab when you do hit that criteria are (probably a postcode lottery) very small.
its not really a case of jumping through hurdles.

Ok thanks everyone. I’m actually keeping my distance anyway atm for other reasons. But I did just note that he said that. I don’t think he’s suicidal but did mention he is finding it hard to find reasons to keep going which concerned me. Not sure what I can do really
