I know I'd have all the support in the world, but I'm terrified! Interested in hearing how others have managed, specifically outside of AA. Thanks!

We both gave up eight years ago, both of us wanted to be healthier. We just completely stopped drinking. To help, we started doing different things like walking more, going swimming, going to the cinema anything really where drink wasn’t served.

At home, we changed our diet and made our dinners much more interesting.

The biggest hurdle for us, was the expectation from other people that we would drink. We tried to avoid those types but it’s not always possible.

We were actually completely amazed how much better we felt, quite quickly. We both lost some weight, we slept better and DH could stop taking blood pressure medication. We were also better off financially.

The other surprising thing was how quickly you get over wanting to drink. Looking back, you wonder why you drank.

Since stopping, if we’re in the company of drinkers, you realise how ridiculous they are once they’ve had a few. They become loud, boring and sometimes belligerent.
