I started vaping 3 years ago as a way to quit smoking. It worked - but since then I’ve found myself vaping all the time when not at work and as I’m 55, I knew it wasn’t doing me any good so wanted to stop. Tried a few times but never managed more than a day before I was reaching for the vape pen.
Stumbled across the Allen Carr book on Amazon and although very skeptical, bought it and read it. He promises that by the end of the book, the desire to vape will go. He says that the reason cold turkey doesn’t work is that your brain feels as though it is being deprived of something and you’re using willpower to deny yourself that substance. You need to retrain your brain to believe that nicotine actually does nothing for you at all and when you do, the desire to vape will just disappear.
All the way through the book I’m thinking yeah, okay - like that’s going to work! I finished the book, sat back and thought about what he’d said and do you know what? I’ve not touched my vape since. Four weeks and counting now and even the worst triggers, which for me were first thing in the morning - get up, cup of coffee, vape, scroll through phone - I do all of it but the need to vape has just GONE. I didn’t expect the book to work but it absolutely has.
i feel better than I have in years. I’m sleeping better, I’ve loads more energy and my mood and well-being have improved. If you’re thinking of quitting but are worried you can’t do it - give this book a try. I wish I’d done it years ago.
