How can I support my son with a gambling addiction? I doing out not that long ago but then he went to a group which he said helped him and he says he has not had problems for a while. I have been conscience of not asking too Often but when I do he’s moody and snappy and just shuts down. Is this a sign it’s still going on? I want to trust him
snd dont want to seem like I don’t but I know it’s not always that easy to switch off is it?

How old is he?

murasaki · 29/03/2025 17:31

Has he accessed gamstop?

Maitri108 · 29/03/2025 17:32

He has a problem with addiction and would benefit from therapy to address the root cause of it. He can find a therapist at BACP. Gam Care has support groups and a helpline he might find useful. You can call or webchat for advice on how to support him.

Oh he's young, is he still living at home? at uni? working? where is he getting the money to gamble? What form is his gambling taking?

Treeoflife21 · 29/03/2025 19:05

Yes he’s at home and he works. He has used online sites. I’m not sure as I said how much exactly he does but. Have been saving his money for him to try and eleviatr things for him a bit so he agreed to do that at least

OP you have my sympathies. Just found out today about my son's gambling problem. He has over a very short period of time lost all of his savings. He's 19 so similar to your son, and working while figuring out what to do with his life. And he has managed to save up a nice sum for travel or further studies. All gone. 😓

We have been in touch with GamCare and so far they have been supportive and understanding.
