My 16-Year-Old Loves Smoking - Could E-Cigarettes Help Him Quit?

I’m reaching out to this community for some advice and support. My 16-year-old child has recently started smoking, and it’s causing me a great deal of concern. As a parent, I’m worried about the long-term health effects and the potential for addiction. I’ve read mixed opinions about e-cigarettes and am considering if they might be a safer alternative to help him quit traditional cigarettes. I would love to hear your experiences, insights, and any advice you might have.

Background:

My child started smoking about six months ago, initially influenced by peers. Despite numerous discussions about the dangers of smoking, he seems to enjoy it and is resistant to quitting. I’ve heard that yocan vape can be a less harmful option compared to traditional smoking and could potentially help in quitting. However, I’m also aware of the controversies and potential risks associated with vaping.

Concerns:

Health Risks: While I understand that e-cigarettes might be less harmful than traditional cigarettes, they are not risk-free. I’m worried about the long-term health effects of vaping, especially since it’s still a relatively new trend.

Addiction: My biggest concern is whether switching to e-cigarettes will actually help him quit or simply replace one addiction with another. Nicotine addiction is strong, and I don’t want him to become dependent on another form of nicotine.

Peer Influence: He started smoking due to peer pressure. I’m not sure if switching to e-cigarettes will address the underlying issue of social influence and acceptance.

The advice is don't start vaping if you don't smoke but switching to vapes is recommended if you smoke.
No one knows the true health risks of vaping yet but it is seen as better than cigarettes.

But if he doesn't want to quit or change to vapes that won't happen. How does he pay for his cigarettes? At 16 I'd be removing the access to money for them.I know you are not asking for parenting advice though.Good luck-teens are hard.

Switching to vaping isn't changing anything because they've got nicotine too. And obviously nobody knows what harm they cause. I don't see how steaming your lungs is any better than smoking them tbh. If he doesn't want to quit I don't really see what you can do
