I saw my sister for the first time in years recently. She's had drug and alcohol issues for over a decade, has recently done a stint in rehab and apparently sober and clean for the first time in years.

This is not the first time she's been in rehab.

I went to see her yesterday and learnt she blames everyone else for her addictions.

Is this normal behaviour? Is it our fault she uses? I always thought alcoholics as part of their steps have to make amends with people and assumed this was the same with drugs but maybe I'm naive.

Does anyone know? My mother is very frail and having a particularly bad time with it and I'm trying to make heads and tails with it.

Well rehab hasn’t been effective if she is blaming her addiction on others. I wouldn’t believe she is clean and she will use any external stressor to use. She needs to accept she has a problem- own that and deal with it
