Revamping boys playroom - ideas please!

My boys (4 and 6 months) have their own playroom which used to be our dining room until DS1 was 6 months old and we realised that he would benefit it from it more as we were highly unlikely to be throwing dinner parties any day year soon .. At the moment it is painted lilac and had a fancy three light thingy which really suited the dining room but looks silly now.

The playroom has a cream sofa, cream carpet and lots and lots of storage boxes from IKEA with the red, blue and white inserts.

Although the room is used more as a tidy away cupboard at the moment as the toys are all out in the living room during the day, I'm hoping it will evolve into their games/hang out/tv room so would like to revamp it to suit them as they grow.

What colour would suit the walls? I have venecian blinds but no curtains haven taken them down when it ceased to be a dining room.

I love red, white and blue and DS1 is really into Star Wars so hoping to get posters framed.

Room isn't that big about 10" square.

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks

Is it a room you can close off from the rest of the house? Am thinking if it's behind glazed doors into the living room or something, that would have to be taken into consideration.

At the moment, I am really into just plain white walls (even with 3 young boys!), white furniture, and then using accessories and art etc. to bring the colour into the room, the obvious choice for you (if it is a private room) is you're red blue and white colour scheme.

BTW, I am studying interior design, and playrooms/kids bedrooms are paning out to be my 'thing'!

oooh, you're studying interior design .

Its a new build four bedroom detached with integral garage (getting converted to a dining room but that's another thread for another time!). The playroom is at the front right of the house, it's a stand alone room with window to front.

I was erring towards white walls as they will be (tastefully if I can manage it) covered in posters and I really want to do two canvas prints of the boys when DS2 is older in the pop art style..

I know aspace/white company do lovely red-white/blue rugs etc. Do you think a fabric shade rather than a metal fancy one? The curtains before were full length but thinking of red window sill length ones this time?

DS1's bedroom is r/w/b but his favourite colour is green (my least favourite!) so don't know how long I'm going to get away with colour scheme.

Also thinking when they are bigger of doing away with couch and getting some massive bean bags although I may need a crane to get me off of them ?

We've got a futon in our playroom. Which then doubles up as a spare bed when we've got guests! Get some kind of storage unit to keep your toy boxes in. Okra does good ones as this will free up more space. How about getting some blank canvas frames from somewhere like the works and letting your boys loose with paints to make your own art for the Walls? You could do hand or feet printing with the younger one!
The union jack would fit your colour scheme too. You could have cushions or a flag up on the wall.

We have posters in frames in the playroom (monsters inc, scooby doo etc.) - easy to replace as the boys grow up, move onto the latest fad etc. I also paimted a piece of plywood with blackboard paint and attached it to the wall for them to chalk on. I got colourful cushions from Ikea which are scattered on the floor for them to sit/lie on.
