I am 5'7, size 10, and have bought this dress
It's a family do (very much looking forward to it) and our ds' (5yrs & 3yrs) will be there as well.

I've got my eyes on these in the champagne (much nicer in the flesh, and v comfy)

However, dh made a passing comment about wearing heels to a wedding, and it's making me wonder if flats are not smart enough.

If it helps, wedding is being held in hotel (service, reception etc) and quite traditional.

I wear flats at pretty much all times (even my own wedding) so I would say fine!

scurryfunge · 05/07/2010 20:54

They would look great. It is your choice.

Fine imo, I have twice worn sparkly flip flops to weddings when I have been wearing very long loose trousers.

Personally I don't think the dress would suit heels.

TheNextMrsDepp · 05/07/2010 20:57

I think you're OK wearing flats with a maxi-dress at a wedding, as long as we're not talking manky Birkenstocks!

Rhian82 · 05/07/2010 21:00

I've never heard anything about them not being suitable, but to be honest that wouldn't stop me anyway, I can't do heels. I'm fairly certain it's rude for a couple to insist on inflicting physical pain on your feet!

runnyhabbit · 05/07/2010 21:01

Thanks for the reassurance

Wherethewildthingswere - I agree. The dress was on a mannequin with heels, and it looked a bit naff. Tbh, I don't wear heels with my other maxi dresses...

(note to self - do not take any notice of dh and his passing comments)

They are fine!

There was a thread recently about someone who HAD to wear flats for a wedding, as reception venue didn't want heels messing up their floors.

archstanton · 05/07/2010 21:06

Personally, I don't think maxi dresses should ever be worn with heels. They lose the whole effect IMO.

A maxi dress with sparkly flip flops like the ones you linked to is perfect for a summer wedding IMO.

In short: YES
enjoy
(most people's heels seem to be discarded by 9pm anyway, don't they?)
