Toast was alays the place I could guarantee finding things I loved (when I could afford it), but I've been distinctly underwhelmed recently. I don't know where to shop any more sob

Someone on here linked to hossintropia.com/ a while back. Have a look at the Summer 10 collection ... they have some really lovely gorgeous clothes if you like that sort of thing

lucykate · 04/07/2010 13:43

know what you mean about toast, i like their clothes, have always coveted them, never bought as way out of my price range, but lately it's all a bit 'meh'.

saltwater
wrap
esprit
uniqlo
i quite like some of the clothes plumo do, expensive but their sale is on atm.

LadyLapsang · 04/07/2010 16:01

Nicole Farhi
Plumo

SloanyPony · 04/07/2010 16:05

I used to love Toast too and have rather a lot of stuff of theirs from about 5 years ago and up to about a year ago and now - its not doing it for me anymore. The colours are definitely not doing it anymore. Sometimes I'll find a worthy knitted piece but that's it.

Poppity · 05/07/2010 11:16

Yes, Plumo is nice if you wait for the sale.

Love Hoss- even pricier than Toast though, boo.

I like saltwater too, but it's a lot like White Stuff.

I guess quirky is everywhere now, back in the day Boden or Toast outfit would often get an oooo! where'd you get that? Now Boden is a reognisable uniform, Toast is just expensive bland, and I still want to dress in an interesting (but not too outlandish) way....

I feel your pain Poppity -- I keep hoping Toast will get their mojo back, this summer's collection was awful, dull, boring, wildly overpriced for what it was.

Stillcounting · 05/07/2010 11:28

I love this shop

recommended by someone on here

selby · 05/07/2010 14:07

Let's face it - Toast is not cutting edge fashion but it does do plain classic pretty well. I've learnt to wait for the 2nd stage of the sale (now on) to buy a few items. Otherwise, I go to Gap for the basics and they never fail me. Hobbs, L.K Bennett, Whistles, Jaegar, Jigsaw & Coast for smart casual. For funkier/cheaper stuff, I like French Connection & Great Plains. I also like the look of the clothes of Fever Designs & Mint Velvet but I've not made a purchase yet.

Poppity · 05/07/2010 22:19

I know selby, but Toast used to be just a bit different than all thehigh street stores you mention. I am not sure if the high street has caught up,ast has dumbed down, either way they aren't much different anymore.

Stillcounting, Inis is great, lovely clothes, but all brands you can get elsewhere.

I'm in a right moany nothing's right mood today and no mistake

Ive been converted to Whistles lately and, Ted Baker.

VinoEsmeralda · 06/07/2010 10:05

I bought loads of stuff from this shop when I was in Holland didi but the online collection doesn't include everything. I got lots of compliments especially from the Boden/Joules/Toast/HObbs wearing mums.

They do lovely kids clothes as well!

Also second Esprit and sometimes Mexx have nice pieces too.

Poppity · 06/07/2010 18:45

Love that shop Vino!! Can you give me an idea on the sizes? I think I would be a small looking at their chart, but am not sure- I am a 10/ small 12. Thanks. the children's stuff is gorgeous too!

OP posts:
VinoEsmeralda · 06/07/2010 23:00

Kids stuff is lovely but rather expensive.

I am a 10/12 too and wear size 40 or medium and sometimes small but mostly medium and 40 (which is 12)

Poppity · 06/07/2010 23:37

Ah thanks- it's always best to know someone who's tried it, from thier measurements I would definitely have gone for small.

Godd sale on the children's stuff atm it seems

OP posts:
Flighttattendant · 07/07/2010 06:45

I agree Toast was not inspiring this summer

I am willing to let them prove themselves however with Autumn stuff...just in case.

Boden has these phases as well. Weirdy stuff then nice stuff, it's pot luck.

I only liked one thing in the toast catalogue and nobody else did as is still in the sale. But it is gorgeous and everyone who saw me in it said 'Wow that is a beautiful dress'
I only wore it one day and people were asking for the website!

Poppity · 07/07/2010 22:02

Which one Flight? I did sort of like this, but though it might look like a pregnancy tunic, or a bit shapeless anyway.....

OP posts:
Flighttattendant · 07/07/2010 22:36

Hiya Poppity, fancy seeing you here!

It's the Lali dress - not tunic but full skirted number with ribbon belt.

It's really flattering and the colours are great. Makes me feel oddly feminine - which is rare!

Poppity · 07/07/2010 23:29

Ahem, yes have lost my Toasty lustre!

I do like that one, it is very feminine. Nice to know it's flattering....I'll keep my eye on the price. Lots left still it seems, not the normal scrum then?

OP posts:
Poppity · 07/07/2010 23:31

Did you get anything else?

OP posts:
Flighttattendant · 08/07/2010 06:29

No, I resisted the leather jacket, it was in and out of the shopping bag until someone else bought them all which was a relief It was far too expensive though - as was the dress! I still haven't found a way to justify that...

I'm amazed they haven't all gone but I do think it's too pricey still. If they bring it down to about 50 that would be about right.

Poppity · 08/07/2010 17:19

Yes I would buy it for that. I thought a lot of their stuff was so shapeless this time- that dress isn't though.

OP posts:
purplepeony · 08/07/2010 21:05

Comptoir de cotonniers?

purplepeony · 08/07/2010 21:07

Sorry but never seen the appeal of Toast- they used to look like baggy gardening clothes and now IMO they look like more expensive, almost gardening clothes.
Not flattering, not good fit and very £££s I think they are the emporers' new clothes - sorry.
