Swim shorts on a grown woman ?

I have just turned 40.

I have a decent figure from running, with definition in my abs I'm rather pleased with.

However, my bottom and upper thighs are ruined with stretch marks and spots.

I have noticed that a lot of young girls wear a skipmy (ish in my case) bikini top with "surf" shorts and manage to look preety good, but what do you think do you think on a woman of a certain age though?

If Ok, any idea where you buy such things?

I dont like it. Can you find a wrap to cover yourself? Next has heaps of ideas for beach dresses and things

JohnPeelwasmyhero · 04/07/2010 07:00

I love them, but sadly I think they're for fit young things, not us old gimmers

jillhastwoponies · 04/07/2010 07:04

Why not?

I don't see how something that offers more coverage rather than less can be only for the young.

LynetteScavo · 04/07/2010 07:09

Fine on the beach, not so good in the pool.

How many 40 year old woman do you know who don't have stretch marks?

RuthieCohen · 04/07/2010 07:11

Agree with jill, never too old for boardies if you've got the abs.

Roxy do the best ones.

go for it, I wish I had the abs for 'em

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2010 07:24

Why not? Plenty of older women wear bikinis, why not bikini and board shorts?

bishboschone · 04/07/2010 13:36

I wear them with a triangle top but I have kind of surfer hair ( blonde curly) so I think it works . Dh is not keen though ,for a more grown up version try. A triangle top bikini with. Sarong . Shows off my best bits and hides the bits I am not happy with .I got told on holiday this year by someone with a fab figure that I had the perfect bikini body( I don't but I was pleased I had acheived hiding my bumps well)

lisbey · 04/07/2010 20:14

I agree a sarong or more feminine cover-up looks better, but I want something I can swim in.

This is for the beach in the UK (I am going to be brave this year!!)

I have a blonde textured bob bishboschone, so if I was 20 years younger I could maybe pass for surfer chick....

Go for it then,I am 35 but little so I look younger (so I am told, and i keep feckin getting asked for ID)!!! I think it's a great look for this country when you are in and out if the sea as I feel very conscious with my mum out .next do them but I got mine from tkmaxx ,they always have them in my local one. I thing just make sure they aren't too tight and sit on the hip you will look fine .

bishboschone · 04/07/2010 21:36

Ps,I go in the sea with my sarong on.I just kind of tuck it in my bikini bottoms. I don't care what people think I just do what makes me feel comfy !

Sariska · 04/07/2010 21:44

I wear them on the beach (am 34 and reasonably toned) and feel much less self-conscious than I would do in bikini bottoms.

Mine are from Fat Face.

lisbey · 04/07/2010 21:54

Oh dear - I'm taking style advice from someone who chooses to wear her skirt tucked in her knickers

Curiousmama · 04/07/2010 21:58

Go for it you hot young thing I'm 42 and if I had the abs I would.

Blackduck · 04/07/2010 21:58

I do, I am older than you, I couldn't give a fuck...that probably doesn't help you much....

Jamieandhismagictorch · 04/07/2010 22:14

I'm 40, and I'm wearing them this year. Haven't worn a bikini for years, my abs don't sound as good as yours, but I think I look OK

bishboschone · 05/07/2010 21:12

It's ok I am cool I promise ;)

gibba8 · 06/07/2010 20:13

Next definetly selling them. Go for it!
