Thinking of getting hair chopped off and going blonder - stupid idea?

My hair is long (alot longer than on pictures on here) and highlighted as it has been for yonks. And it is taking forever to dry and style and I am just generally bored of it.

The thing is, my hair style fits in with my clothes style if you know what I mean, so my new hair style would have to also so I don't have to buy lots of new clothes (I mean, I would love to have to buy lots of new clothes, but have not got the money!)

The money is another thing, I am thinking of going all over blonde and then perhaps risking doing it home myself.

Anyway, these are just thoughts. Here is the kind of thing I like:

It is lots shorter and on TV she has it shorter on one side of her head which I kinda like and seems to do it a different way each week.

But, will I be getting it trimmed all the time?

Am I just going through a hair fad? Should I act on it?!!

When I had my hair cut shorter I was shocked at how much extra work it was tbh. And your hair is so pretty! I would maybe (if money will stretch) ask for a slightly shorter hairsyle and see how you get on with it for a couple of weeks. Then if you feel you still want it shorter then go for it. Most places will give you a free consultation too so take advantage of visiting a few places and seeing what they suggest.

Could try a longer version and go the blonde thing and see if it's what I want....

I have just done the same.I never had time to style my hair[4 kids] and it was long, wavy and highlighted and tatty.I have just had it cut to shoulder length in a layered bob and had lighter/blonder hihlights in it for summer.Its a revelation and i can just finger dry it in the morning and go.Why don't you try going shorter and blonder in stages so its not too drastic and is reversible if you don't like it.But i do like the short blonde bob pictured [wish hair like that would suit me!].

I have a very short bob at the moment (comes to the bottom of my ears), growing out from a crop and it is very blonde. The style is similar to this and the colour a bit lighter than yours

I don't style it unless I'm going out, I just wash it and leave it to dry (it's naturally very straight).

Beware of going blonder at home yourself - if you are already highlighted it can go very brassy (I speak from experience!)

Go for it, if you're nervous then go shorter in stages.

Never under estimate how long it will take to grow back either, i had a short style just in time for my daughters Christening, looked like a man and it took 3 years before i was happy with it again.

I have just bene fiddling with my hair and trying to hold it up as if shorter and it does look nice but then I let me hair fall back and think 'mmmm that looks ok too'.

I know it is early yet, but I always think what a drag it is having longer hair in winter - shorter hair looks tons better with coats/scarves /hats. But, I have had my hair shorter in past and always grown it back again (then again, if I'm going to go shorter it has to be a really good cut and really up to date so maybe that is where I've gone wrong in the past)

I think I will go blonder in the salon first

I have done it recently and wish I had done it ages ago.

I have gone from just below my bra strap, so over halfway down my back to a bob a tad longer than my hairline (but a touch longer at the front).I have always had highlights but this time went much blonder too.

It is so much easier to look after and style and looks nice all the time now, plus everone keeps telling me how much younger I look.

I have also spent years going from long to short and back again, my hair grows incredibly fast, so it isn't a particually long cycle, but I don't think I won't grow it again now, it's just too much of a pain and then too hard to make the decision to lop it off again.

My hair was about the same length as yours in the photos until last weekend - when I had it chopped to just above my shoulders into a kind of layered bob with a side parting and long fringe. Didn't get it highlighted though as I wanted to see how it looks with the highlights cut out (mousey brown - will get done again after my holiday!) I loved it after getting it done but it is really difficult to dry it now so it looks good. Was a lot easier when it was long!

When I saw the thread title and that it was you who posted Jewels, my reaction was NO, DON"T DO IT! Your hair is lovely. But actually I think that length would really suit you.

Oooo pretty! I'd say you have a strong enough face to carry off going short, deffo. But you need to think about the upkeep and how long it will really take to style in the morning. DOn't be fooled by the hairdresser doing it in 2 minutes flat. It's their job

I really like your hair in the bottom pic, but I also think the new style could look really good on you.

I am really seriously considering it, and I said to my mum that I was and she was like 'don't do it!' Aaargh!

I guess the reason I am fixing on the going blonder is because my hair is fine and quite flat so the blonder(ness) really helps give texture and hold.

Do you think it would be really short at the back? On the programme, it does not look like it is so short as to have a neck-shave situation.....?

I have fine hair like you and my hair fluctuates from shoulder length (which always looks abit straggley)to chin length bob. I have strong features and have recently gone very blonde for the summer. I say go for it it will update your look and frame your pretty face.
