Bare Minerals - any tips

monkeysmama · 01/07/2010 12:43

I decided to cheer myself up during a recent flight by buying a Bare Minerals starter set. Mine only has one foundation shade in though and a "warmth" too.

Probably not the best idea to buy new make up on an plane but I've tried it once and really liked it. Only tried it pre shower though to see if I could get the hang of putting it on.

Am going out on Saturday and wondered if anyone has any good tips so I don't look totally caked.

Also, I need some new eye make up and was wondering about their eye products?

TIA

all their products are fab

wrt to foundation - make sure that you have moisturised beforehand, because it does not sit well on dry skin

swirl tap buff, work it in well

the warmth can be a bit ott, blend well

Thanks Boys I am pretty tanned atm so the warmth looks okay but haven't really understood what it is. Is it like a blusher? I looked at the website and couldn't find warmth in the blusher section.

The coverage seems pretty thin too. Do I just need to swirl tap buff a few more times?

the warmth - it's nearly a bronzer but non-metallic (I use it to dust between my norkage to enhance cleavage)

coverage, you can build up 'layers' if you like, but the point is that is supposed to look 'natural' you are used to a more blanket appearance possibly?

I can't recommend highly enough, it doesn't melt or slide off, very little marking on clothing (collars) and spf too

Thanks again Boys.

I quite like the warmth - I've been looking for a similar bronzer so am happy with it.

Re the coverage - I've used Biotherm foundation for years which I love and may still use some days but it is liquid and I really fancied giving mineral foundation a try.

Have you tried their eye colours?

Am loving the eye stuff and once you have the kit you can buy a new colour every month because you already have the brushes! (Yes, I'm an addict!)

Also, although it is important to get the foundation right, the eye colours seem to work across several spectrums - I suit both light and medium.

I also really like the tingly lipstick - I'm pregnant at the moment, and it actually makes me look foraward to getting out of bed and putting it on - despite feeling inordinately tired atm.

I really recommend it. Or lilylolo for a cheaper version but equally good.

Yes, you need to swirl and buff it in. The more you buff, the better it looks. There are lots of demo vids on their website and the lilylolo website and youtube.

I really recommend the eye products. I avoided them for years because it all looked too fiddly. Now I've tried them I wouldn't go back to other eyeshadows. They have a lovely shimmer (rather than the glittery look that some eyeshadows have) and they really stay put. Loads of lovely colours too.

they've got a shop in Covent Garden if you're ever in London and you have some cash to burn!

Thanks for the comments. I've taken the opportunity to have a shower while dd is napping and am surrounded by brushes and pots to have a Bare-Essentials-over. Dp will think I've gone mad when he gets home.

I had my make up done at the Bare Minerals counter, you only need to use about 5p size of foundation powder, then the warmth should go on with a thinner brush. Saleswoman described putting it on as a drawing a large B on one side of your face (with the straight edge being your nose!) and on the other side of your face more of a curved E!

Did you get mineral veil too - that goes on over the top of the foundation and warmth.

Hope that helps, I'm converted!

The Lily Lolo website have tv exerpts showing you how to use their products. It might be useful.I think you also need a really big brush for buffing if you don't already have one.
