Short skirts & varicose veins?

Fimbo · 30/06/2010 23:06

Sadly I have inherited varicose veins from my father's side of the family. A couple are blue and twisted. I generally wear 3/4 length trousers in summer rather than shorts or shorter skirts, does it bother you looking at someone's freaky veins?

Dunno I cover mine up

VuvuzelaPlenticlew · 30/06/2010 23:10

It doesn't bother me to see other people's but it really bothers me to show my own - wish I had the confidence not to mind.

LynetteScavo · 30/06/2010 23:11

I cover mine up, and they are not even that bad. But combined with chunky calves it's not a good look.

God invented leggings just for me.

LynetteScavo · 30/06/2010 23:12

i would love to see other people, just so I could go; Ha! someone is worse of than me.

I'm not a nice person, am I!

Fimbo · 30/06/2010 23:14

I saw someone today in the playground with knee length shorts and her legs were covered in knots. I wish I had that confidence not to care but I do, but then I can't wear things I really want to.

It doesn't bother me but I do notice veins on other people's legs but that's probably because I am conscious of mine. I think that if you should go for it if you feel comfortable.

Ronaldinhio · 30/06/2010 23:59

It doesn't bother me to look at them at all...some of my my friends, fat and thin, have them with no real explanation why some do and some don't
I'd rather see veins than 3/4 length trousers!!

Fimbo · 01/07/2010 00:01

Ronaldinhio has persuaded me to ditch my usual garb - skirt and veins tomorrow!

Doesn't bother me either

Ronaldinhio · 01/07/2010 00:18

my hands are so swollen at the moment that they look as thought they have varicose veins in them...should I wear fingerless gloves??

out and proud fimbo

swottybetty · 01/07/2010 00:29

my veins are in exact same place as my dads too. gah. and they only get worse. plus all the spider veins around them.

i get my legs out. since pregnancies left me long in the mams, they are all i've got . FWIW i think they look fine.

ronshar · 01/07/2010 10:31

I wore a skirt this morning.
Out and proud.

ameliameerkat · 01/07/2010 13:23

I'm too scared . Mine stay covered outside of the house.

Pinkmarshmallow · 01/07/2010 13:53

i have them starting on the back of my knees, started whie PG. Relieved to see others with them too!

Fimbo · 01/07/2010 14:03

I wore a short black dress today, felt a bit self conscious at first, especially as everyone at work was commenting on my dress and said it was nice, probably because I always wear trousers, 3/4's or ankle skimming skirts.

Oh and I looked into getting them fixed, as it is cosmetic it would need to be done privately starting FROM £1500 per leg and there is no guarantee they wont come back again....

Pinkmarshmallow · 01/07/2010 14:11

Well done, Fimbo... I'm sure you're looking great today. Enjoy all those compliments that are flying! Don't waste that much money on cosmetic surgery....think of all the lovely new clothes you could buy with that instead!

Fimbo · 01/07/2010 14:20

Thank you Pinkmarshmallow, mumsnet at it's best giving me the confidence to actually do something and stop looking mumsy! Will ponder over the op though!

Don't have a vein problem, but have similar problem with swollen feet.I wish I could just forget about how bad I think they look and wear what I want to wear and not be in trousers all the time.

ameliameerkat · 01/07/2010 18:48

Girlfriends when I have my ocassional moan about them always say 'but you'll notice them much than anyone else will, I bet other people wouldn't even be able to see them'. And then I pull up my trouser leg and they say 'oh! '. At which I go 'ha! told you they were bad!!'.

And cos it's summer and hot (even in Scotland for once!) I can feel them all the time, not just when I've been standing for long periods. Oh well, will look into getting them fixed next year .

Ronaldinhio · 01/07/2010 18:57

glad you got your legs out
3k for vein operations sounds like a lot unless they are absolutely killing you
spend the money on other lovely things instead

lozster · 01/07/2010 19:04

Get your legs out! As a child it made me very sad to see my Mum hide away - no shorts no swimsuits - because of her veins. As a teenager I persuaded her to wear shorts on holiday abroad (ok as she wouldn't see anyone she knew!) then she just gradually lost her inhibition. Go for it - you have nothing to lose but the time time you have already lost!

Fimbo · 02/07/2010 13:58

I wore another knee length dress today. Looked down in horror to realise I had missed a bit when shaving near my ankle - LOL.

Mine don't hurt unless I have been standing for a long time.
