I really fancy this dress. I feel my wardrobe is getting frumpy. Do you reckon someone of a size 14 with a bust could wear it?

I think it would probably look alright but it isn't all that nice especially for that much money.

I think you could find something much nicer and more flattering.

Off to look for you...

kittya · 30/06/2010 09:47

Oh, I know what you mean. I bought a really flattering dress from Phase Eight but, on reflection, its too grown up and only for special occasions. I dont want to be mutton but Im not ready for Boden frocks yet.

I tried it on on Monday in a 14. I'm normally a size12, but they didn't have any in stock. It looked really good, but the 14 was a bit gapey on my 32 ff bust. I'm sure there are ways round that though... It was otherwise very flattering.
I didn't buy it as it was slightly over by budget, but its very nice andd if I thought i'd get more use out of it (I'm a jeans and t-shirt addict) I would have bought it.

kittya · 30/06/2010 10:12

I tried the black and cream one on with birds and it was really flattering but too short. This one is quite afew cms longer which is why I fancy it. Im also wishfully thinking I can layer it in winter.

Looked at it yesterday, is LOVELY. Is perfect shape for a curvy girl.

littledawley · 30/06/2010 10:25

I have literally just got this in the post!!! It is lovely on the bust (I'm a 34ff) but it is really quite short and I'm not sure that my legs are good enough for it. If you have good legs then go for it!

littledawley · 30/06/2010 10:27

Also, the colour is not at all how it looks on the website - it's quite a pinky coral rather than bright orange. I really love it but am not sure I can pull it off.... Are leggings a no-no??

Tattyhead78 · 30/06/2010 10:34

I don't think size has anything to do with it. Without a belt it looks like a sack or is it because the model doesn't have a waist? Perhaps wear with a wide belt to nip it in at waist. Cropped black leggings would go, perhaps with some chunky sandals or gladiators.

kittya · 01/07/2010 09:49

I think the model makes it more sack-like as she is so skinny. I think with footless tights it should look ok. I was hoping it wasnt going to be as short as their usual dresses.

I can't work out exactly what dress you're linking to (the link has gone odd for me), but I think Whistles is great for curvy girls. I'm a size 12/14 with a DD/E cup and I love everything I try on there, they really know how to cut for curves.

kittya · 01/07/2010 10:30

its called animal drape dress it looks black with an orange pattern

i have it and i love love love love it
definitely suits all sizes too - i saw a size 16 lady wearing one - actually it was the version before which is blue with little white spots - she looked really great in it.

perfect summer dress imvho

and no i don't work there

littledawley · 01/07/2010 13:43

Bella - I wish that I had bought the spotty one but they are now sold out of my size. Have decided to keep this one though, have convinced myself that my legs don't look too bad...
It's definitely different in colour than it seems on the website though - grey background with black and coral background. It looks summery now but will last ages as it will also look nice with opaques and a black blazer.

kittya · 01/07/2010 18:01

I ordered the black one with swallows on so I could compare the two. Mistake!! it is very flattering and it has abit of a sleeve, I can see me wearing it in Winter too. I will have to sort out the bra situation though, it is very gapey under the arms. Now, Im waiting for the coral one. Sod the bloody Boden sale tomorrow, Im getting modernised!! I just think that if I can wear them to death I can justify it.

bah humbug

BellaBalloon · 01/07/2010 19:06

i loved that swallow print too
i prefer 'our' one to spotty one now tho had aso originally been after the spots. ours is much more original and cool. i think that it is so harf to find clothes that make you feel really good so i am feeling no guilt, just pure satisfaction!

littledawley · 01/07/2010 20:38

kittya - is the swallow print very short? I was also going to order it but you mentioned earlier on the thread how short it is which put me off. I don't think that I could go any shorter than the coral one.

kittya · 02/07/2010 09:39

The measurements say that the coral one is quite abit longer but I havent received it yet. The swallow one just sits on my knee and Im 5ft 5. Its a different length for me but I wouldnt say it is mini. I think I will wear flats though or footless tights. Its very flattering. What size are you? I sized up to a 16 as I was abit nervous incase it came up small.

OP posts:
littledawley · 03/07/2010 07:36

I'm 5"4 and the coral is a nice length on me. I am a size 14 (closer to 16 than 12 IYSWIM) - I bought a 14 and it's lovely, the only fitted bit is on the waist which is my smallest bit so it's perfect.

kittya · 03/07/2010 09:03

and bra wise? im going to have to find something that wont show the strap accross the back. I cant wait for the coral one now!!

OP posts:
kittya · 04/07/2010 17:42

I wore the swallow one last night and I lost count of the amount of people who told me how lovely it was. That never happens to me!!

OP posts:
littledawley · 04/07/2010 19:13

Oooh, might have to order it.... There is no bra issue with the coral as it zips right up to the neck.
Glad your dress made you look and feel lovely x

kittya · 05/07/2010 09:28

thats exactly what it was. I felt flipping great!! and people noticed. Buy it you wont regret it. I got it from Selfridges and it came the next day Im still waiting for the coral one I ordered from Whistles.

OP posts:
kittya · 06/07/2010 09:26

Well, the coral one just arrived. Im loving it but not quite as much as the dove black and cream one. Simply because it does make my knockers look huge and I will have to put a pin in the front. It is flattering and it will look amazing with a (fake) tan. The lengths on both are the same. I would say that the coral material is flimsier. I will be keeping both, I just dont think I will get as much wear out of this one. I must now keep away from all things Whistles. Cant believe Ive just discovered how great they are for the weller endowed!!
