Perfect maxi dress, but will I wear it??

I have a dilemma of sorts. I was arsign around in town this morning, enjoying shopping while ds had a kip in his buggy which is a very rare event. I took this dress into the changing room and it looks amazing. I am mid twenties, 5 foot 7 and a newly slimmed down size 10, very tanned and dark brown hair. I even took a picture on my phone so I could go and mull it over.
Now, I have a picnic on the beach thingy tonight with some uni friends, which I think, if I go back and buy it, I would wear it to. But apart from that, will it languish at the back of my wardrobe? I am more of a Fat Face (ie boring and safe) dresser, and tbh I can't decide if this is a bit WAG for everyday. It's too much for just wondering round town in isn't it? So, would you buy it?? I have an hour to decide before doign the school run and could swing by and pick it up afterwards.

also interested in maxi with jumper...

trilliAnasTra · 25/06/2010 16:55

I could imagine a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath for winter (maybe on one with straps rather than strapless) but not sure about a jumper.

sweetheart · 25/06/2010 16:57

I wear it with a skinny roll neck jumper and knee high boots

Maryqueenofchocs · 25/06/2010 18:11

I love that dress but with D cups how would I keep it up? Anyone recommend an amazing magic strapless bra which doesn't end up round your middle?

SandyBits · 25/06/2010 18:30

The new wonderbra strapless is amazing. But ££. It's worth trying a dfew on, I have a JOhn Rocha one that cost me £6 last week in the Debenhams sale that is the best strapless bra I've ever had.
Well, the dress is now hanging up in my bedroom, I'm just waitign to put the dc to bed and then I am going to swan around in it. I do adore it, but I made sure I could take it back just in case...

I am v .

trilliAnasTra · 25/06/2010 20:50

I only have B cups so not so much of a problem. Haven't ordered yet. Wondering if Sandy is going to show us a picture of the dress in real life...

Mumsnut · 25/06/2010 21:23

Right - I have the dress - it is silky not matt. It is very secure - will not slip down - but you will need a strapless bra underneath to, err, hide nipples. If you are really worried about slippage, there is a narrow tie at the back which could be cut off, and looped through the band at the front that 'gathers' the bandeau top, to make it into a halterneck.

I think it is a very good £30 spend.

SandyBits · 26/06/2010 16:44

Trillian, I wore it last night and it went down very well . I think having braved it and worn it outside I am now in proper lurrrrve with it. Will do my best for a picture tonight.
The one thing that worries me now is wearing it in the daytime. I think the sun shining on it will make it very see through, and the part of me I want to hide is my hideously stretchmarked belly. If that is going to be shown in all it's glory I may just cry. Also, what to wear on top? It is sweltering, but I think I owuld be self conscious wearign it on its own in the city. So, any denim jacket reccys?
I think it's quite a bold dress so it needs to be a simple coverup. I wore it last nigth with a chunky wooden bangle and posh flip flops and I really did feel great in it

'I am mid twenties, 5 foot 7 and a newly slimmed down size 10, very tanned and dark brown hair' on top of that you have found a dress that looks amazing!

Sod the dress, I'd walk round naked if I looked like that Glad you took the plunge.

SandyBits · 26/06/2010 17:06

Oh said you are too kind.
What I failed to mention were the stretch marks covering every inch of skin and saggy belly. But at least in a pretty dress I can give off the illusion of perfection

Lol said - so are we going to see a pic then SandyBits?

SandyBits · 27/06/2010 10:24

I tried and tried last night but I can't get a good picture in the mirror- the flash ruins it. I may bribe my 6 year old to take one, or see if I can work out how to get the picture from my phone. I am sat here in my pjs wondering wether to wear it today. It's scorching. But I think the day will be spent in the park and it's not really best for that is it? It will get trashed. I'm having coffee with friends later in the week and have told myself I will wear it then.
One hting, having takne pictures of it I can see it does look nice. I am still stuck n fat girl mentality, going from an 18 to a 10 takes some getting your head around

trilliAnasTra · 27/06/2010 12:10

So glad you're keeping it! You clearly need a selection of day/night maxi dresses to show off your new figure

totalmadness · 27/06/2010 16:19

Damn you, now I want it !!!!!!

SandyBits · 27/06/2010 16:26

Get it!
It's so flattering, I can't think of a single one of my friends it wouldn't suit iyswim. I spared it from the park today, but it will have it's time. Dd is going to her dad's this weekend, and it's the OW who is picking her up I may just wear this to show her how fabulous I am

Ooo also, I lied when I said it was a pound cheaper in store. It was in fact two pounds cheaper. And the girl asked me if I wanted to save 20% and open an account. I said no, but if I smiled at her would she believe I was a student and give me a cheeky discount? Well she only bloody did Bargainous.

trilliAnasTra · 27/06/2010 18:56

Damn, really wish they had it instore, especially if it's cheaper. Maybe I should go check out the other New Look, to get a better lok.

totalmadness · 27/06/2010 19:14

It doesn't cling to you like the newlook cheapy one does it? I've seen lots of people in that one with EVERY lump and bump showing not good.

Am I quite short my only worry is that I would like I was playing dress up well the other worry is not having the money!!

SandyBits · 27/06/2010 19:16

Doesn't cling at all. The t shirt maxi from there is awful
