I have this - you can get it either for shorter or longer hair. Mine is mid length and I have kinks rather than overly curly hair, I generally let my hair dry a bit naturally then clip most of it on top of my head and dry in sections - ive got thick hair & can do my whole head in about 15 minutes.
It is worth persevering with as it does take a bit of getting the hang of, mine has a tension knob on the end so you have to fiddle with that to get it right. Also you need to have your hair cut regularly and protect it against the heat as like straighteners it gets VERY hot.
I WOULD replace it if it when wrong, which I guess is the ultimate recommendation! I like the fact that unlike straighteners you can make it really straight but also give it body at the same time if you want to.
