...about the state of my legs?!

I just bought a new dress (knee length) and peep toes shoes from L K Bennett for a wedding I am going to on 31 July.

The sales assistant was kind enough not to comment on the state of my legs, but I need some help in sorting them out.

I have quite nice calves, and am not very hairy - that's about as good as it gets!

I am very pale skinned, have lots of marks (old insect bites / thread veins round my ankle from an old hockey injury) and quite prominent veins. Hmm, nice.

How can I make them look decent enough to go sans tights?? I don't want to do a spray tan, as I am worried I'll look like I've been tangoed and/or come out in a rash.

Is there anything I can do?
Or is it acceptable to wear the bare legs tights from M&S...but with a peep toe?

Your advice please ladies...

you could try some instant spray tans and see what you think in advance.

or maybe try nude fishnets?

PassMeTheKleenex · 23/06/2010 21:31

Re the instant sprays - do you have any recommendations? Don't want to spend £££ going through them all!

Nude fishnets - good fallback.

Am working on the assumption it's going to be boiling hot and I won't want to wear tights. However, knowing this country - I'll probably be looking for opaques and my problem will be solved

I am ultra pale and i have had a spray tan before, I didn't look tango, just a bit less undead! you can specify you just want to move out of the translucent range and they will do you accordingly! Maybe get one next week and you have long enough to judge if you like it and for it to wear ff before wedding if you don't.

PassMeTheKleenex · 23/06/2010 21:48

Undead is definitely what I am aiming for!
What brand did you go for?

it wasn't a posh brand one, just went to a reputable local salon, stood in a corner of a room in my knickers having to do various odd poses 'stand to the side, lift your arms like you are running and freeeeze'. it was for my wedding and my sister was getting sprayed at the same time and she guffawed heartily as she said to the spraye 'does she need to lift her boobs up to spray under them or should she just leave that bit white' at my gobby sis, as it was a perfect female specimen size 6 sort of very nice lady spraying me and and my huge boobs!

It lasted about a week and half but it was so subtle you didn't ntice any major change as t faded. Prob try a local salon you know has been going a while that doesn't look manky?

Johnsons Holiday skin? - Footless tights? I remember about 10 years ago wearing tights that were toe-less they had a sort of flip flop thong thing to keep them on - pretty sure I got them in Boots.

PassMeTheKleenex · 23/06/2010 22:28

YouSaidIt - I have huge boobs too...so do I lift?!?

Helium - you nearly induced a panic attach with the footless tights idea...I was thinking leggings ...but I see what you mean now!

PassMeTheKleenex...

I chose not to lift.

Dh was puzzled why I had two huge white splodges when i laid down in bed and my boobs flobbed off to the sides!!!!

Keeping the spark in marriage an' all that

VuvuzelaPlenticlew · 24/06/2010 00:21

I too have experienced the spray tan boob issue. I lifted but it didn't help because they just dropped down again when I let go, so I still had patches. You cannot win. I saw a woman poolside who had the same thing under her bum cheeks - quite possibly I did as well but decided not to investigate [head in sand]

OP, don't wear nude fishnets, they make legs look sort of weirdly textured, like something is amiss with your skin. I don't think they do what people hope they will do. Better a good pro spray tan and if need be, also very sheer cosmetic tights from a really good make, Wolford or something.

Bobbalina · 24/06/2010 06:47

You can get peep toe tights

topsi · 24/06/2010 06:57

St Tropez Everyday cream, you can buy it from Boots. It builds up gradualy so you can keep it quite natural.
You could have the veins treated with laser or Veinwave.

scratchmyback · 24/06/2010 07:19

I agree with topsi, St Tropez Everyday cream. I dont do sunbeds and look orange with a spray tan. If I do false tan myself it looks crap and streaky.

Somebody on here recommended St Tropez Everyday and its brilliant - its a build up cream. Goes on white and just gradually builds up. No streaks either. Just exfoliate your legs then put it on - if you put it on everyday I would say start it about 4 - 5 days before and you will look tanned enough. I use the light one (you can get light or dark) and its fine for me.

topsi · 24/06/2010 09:26

Yeah the light one is fine, use it for a few days then leave it for a couple of days etc, it smells a bit but not too unpleasant, you can put it on at night then wash it off in the morning then you don't smell it all day

PassMeTheKleenex · 24/06/2010 10:48

VuvuzelaP - definitely don't want to look like I have a weird skin disease!

Am liking the sound of the everyday cream - will investigate in Boots.

Thanks Ladies!

St trop everyday cream is great, I use it and you can just stop when the colour is right for you...
