Upper arms

I hope I am posting this in the right section - feel free to redirect me if not.

My problem is that I have developed a disgusting upper arm flab problem. It's not at the back of the arm (tricep) but at the front, right up the top, kind of in front of the armpit if that makes sense. The skin there has gone really loose, crinkly and flabby and it is DISGUSTING.
Does anyone know what exercises I can do to sort this out? I don't think bicep curls are going to do it because the problem is higher up.

I'd be grateful for any advice - it's really knocking my confidence. By the way, I am slim so the answer will be exercise rather than weightloss if you know what I mean

mine's the same. Left arm is worse as it doesn't get asmuch use!

You need to do bicep curls. Daily Mail has an animated video of these on its site under either health or femail.

Use free weights of 2-3 kgs and do 10x3 reps every other day.

Also, push ups either against a wall of kneeling on the floor are good.

I worked hard at this last summer and saw a difference- my upper arms had a horrible jelly-like bag just like you describe- and it did help- then I got lazy over the winter and had to start again.

I think a man invented this
You could try this

chrysothei · 23/06/2010 09:50

Thanks for replying you two.
Purplepeony - you have inspired me, I too will work hard and try and get rid of it! I will stop putting it off...

LouIsWaltzingMatilda - wow, I have never seen one of those shake-weights before...looks odd doesn't it?

Push ups are a great exercise for upper arms and chest. Can I suggest that you do NOT do them on your knees though. Try doing them against a wall first, if you can do 3 sets of ten then next time do them at a steeper incline, say with your hands on the back of the sofa, once you can do three sets of ten there then switch to something lower and so on, until eventually you can do them on the floor. The idea is that you need to keep challenging your muscles, causing them to build new fibres and hence change their shape, giving your arms that 'toned' look. If you can already do 3 sets of ten push ups on your knees, then even if you do them every day your arms are not going to look any different as your muscles have already adapted as much as they need to. It is the same with bicep curls, if you are going to buy weights then make sure you buy adjustable dumbbells so that you can keep increasing the weight. As purplepeony suggests, start with 2-3kg and once you can do 3 sets then up the weight.

Do the exercises every other day so that your muscles get a chance to recover in between.

i have found ahuge difference in mine with davina mccoll dvd and the 30 day shred dvd mine was combining weight loss too though

EldritchCleavage · 23/06/2010 13:16

Use loose weights and do chest presses (lying down, push weights directly up until arms straight, bring them down again and repeat) and flies (lying down using bent arms, click weights together then pull arms outwards until parallel, bring them up and click weights again), best done lying on a Swiss ball because then you work your core, too. Also over the head presses while standing (hold weights at shoulder height, push straight up).
Snatches with kettlebells are also good.

30 day shred is fabulous....

chrysothei · 26/06/2010 14:18

Thanks all. Eldritch - would you mind explaining flies again? I get bringing the arms up and clicking the weights together but then not sure. Do I bring arms back down and them streatch them out so that they are at right angles to my body?

EldritchCleavage · 06/07/2010 18:03

Sorry, just seen this.
Yes you do bring the arms back down as far as you can, but keep them slightly bent at all times-do not lock elbows.

LostGirl · 07/07/2010 07:30

Chest flies demo here

Make sure you are using a weight heavy enough to be challenging. If you can do 15 reps comfortably then you need to use something heavier.
