White tips of fingernails spreading into rest of nails?

Put this in Health but realised probably better here where nail technician/beautician might see it.
Just wondered if anyone knows why this might be happening. Its on 5 of my finger nails. Looks awful and quite sore. Doesnt seem like an infection.
Thanks

are your nails lifting off the nail bed?

kizzie · 21/06/2010 19:28

no they dont feel like they lifting.
It feels like a small splinter has gone down into the nail bed. If that makes sense. Ive never had it before on my nails and looks very odd. Also strange that on 5 separate nails. 3 on one hand. 2 on the other.

I think its sore because i cut them to try and get rid of it but ive ended up cutting too low

it' could be a fungal infection but you will need to see the gp for a diagnosis. a nail technician isn't allowed to diagnose.

Could it be thrush?

kizzie · 21/06/2010 19:38

ok thanks - i'll let them grow back and then see how they are after that

you dont need to let them grow back to get a swab taken. go to gp and ask that they take one.

have just googled 'nail lifting' and actually it does look like that. I thought that would be yellow but there are pics of it as white.
Will go to Gp - thanks for answering

google is amazing isn't it?

I get this sometimes, it is where the nail lifts slightly, I usualy just cut them short and it grows out again.
