I have never worn Birkenstocks. Would it be unwise to buy some online?

Or do you think it would be too much hassle regarding returns etc?

If your feet are normal width it should be ok. I am a 5 in Birkenstocks though, and 6-7 in other shoes so maybe try some on in a shop first?

Go to TKmaxx only £19.99 shop or online

Only thing is you can't check how light/heavy they feel online, some Birkenstocks can be a bit to heavy on the foot. Plus if you're like me, my foot size went up 1 for some shoes since having babies! Although I buy shoes online and usually they fit fine. I just ordered converse trainers yesterday.

I bought mine online (the Birkenstocks site has a handy size-guide you can print out), and was soon the proud owner of a pair of gold ones. I wish I'd bought them in a shop: then I would have seen, and felt, immediately that they were agony and going to churn up the skin on the top of my foot into raw pate after just one wear.

So now I have a pair of size 7 gold Birkies for sale! Worn once, agonisingly, and never again.

I ordered mine online and have had no problems at all

They do take some getting used to though, but mine are really comfy now

mrsflux · 19/06/2010 18:51

Check your size in store.

I'm usually a 5 or 6 but my birkenstocks are a 37 which I think is a 4!!

I get mine from footshopping.com as there is lots of choice or style and colours. Quite cheap too

iCooed · 19/06/2010 18:51

size down

iCooed · 19/06/2010 18:52

i sold used ones on ebay for about a tenner when i bought the wrong size

BlauerEngel · 19/06/2010 18:53

Like Mrs Flux, DD1 and myself are normally a 39 (about a 6) but our Birkies are a 37. Strongly recommend trying them on beforehand.

I have found my pari very comfortable - I tryed on a pair of fitflops - thinking they would be just as comfortable and they were very ill fitting. The fitflops in a size 6 (which I am and always have been) were too small and hurt my heel, the shop lady assistant said that this would be fine but I could try a 7, I did and they swalled my feet and two children along with it.

So for my feet I find birkenstocks very comfortable and could wear all day, but fitflops are not comfy for me.

Oh and I love them!

I have 6 pairs and wore White ones at my wedding, under my dress for dancing in!!!

Bumperlicious · 19/06/2010 21:14

I don't like them. I don't like the ridges, they rub on my feet. Have spent a stupid amount on two pairs of Scholl sandals recently though.

Oops.

I clicked "send order" and then popped back to this thread. I thought it was unanswered.

Oh well. Thanks all, and fingers crossed!
