Epilating underarms

Does anyone do this? Is there anything I should know?

I did it recently but it was absolutely agonising. Something weird went on and it seemed to try to epilate my actual skin or something, it sort of snagged and BURNED like fury!
I also wonder whether it had something to do with sweat? (I'm not a heavy sweater but hell, it might have been a panic reaction! )

I had to spend the rest of the day with sudocreme in my pits.

What am I doing wrong? (Even thinking about doing it again, maybe? )

don't ever do it again

epeilators with their millions of teef going ang ang ang are the work of the devil

MadreInglese · 18/06/2010 14:08

pmsl @ ang ang ang

I do mine, I have a smaller attachment that you put over the epilator so it does a smaller area, and less chance of snagging your skin. Is fab, no regrowth for at least a week and then all wispy and easily dealt with.

I did mine the first few times in the shower, and that helped (I have a wet&dry epi). It hurts less with finer and shorter hair, so once you've done the first couple of times, it is quicker and less painful.

mankyscotslass · 18/06/2010 14:09

I did mine a bit at a time over the course of a week.

But I think the recommended was is get them waxes first, then when the hairs are just long ebough, epilate then!

I barely wince now, and then only when I have left it longer than a week between sessions.

The finish is loads better than shaving.

HippyGalore · 18/06/2010 14:10

Wax first then maintain with epilator, way too sore to do epilating on all the hair at once - also try and make sure the skin is as taut as possible where the epilator goes over it. I don't think it is sweat more likely pinching.

Good luck, if you have managed to do it all once, it is worth keeping it up with the stray hairs now instead of letting it all grow back and going through the agony again!

puddinmama · 18/06/2010 14:35

Hi

put some talc powder first to stop it from snagging.

ouch!

nagoo · 18/06/2010 15:39

I love epilating threads. they make me esp 'ang ang ang'.

I only do legs. Am not brave. And really, how long does it take to shave an armpit or two?

Drusilla · 18/06/2010 15:42

I have been doing mine for years and now hardly feel it - think they have got used to it. My best advice is don;t do it when the hairs are too long!

makealist · 18/06/2010 15:47

You have to try and keep the skin as taunt as possible, hard I know. It usually ends up chewing up my skin, and I end up with bruising, but the result still outweighs the pain!!!

DewinDoeth · 18/06/2010 19:21

Phew, was worried that I had committed some sort of medical no-no!

The result really is worth it - so will try again. Great tip re: talc; the snagging was the problem.
And I'll do it before bed this time. Maybe after a beer tonight!

'ang ang ang' - that should be quote of the week! (Actually, where's that gone?)

The first time I did my pits I thought I was going to pass out! No way I was ever going to do it again, but the hair that grew back was wispy and came back quite slowly. Now it's dealt with very quickly, only one or two hairs at a time (ang ang ang!)

theladylovescupcakes · 18/06/2010 21:00

i make sure that i've washing and fully dried my pits, talc sounds like a good idea too. agree with keeping them taut, ie arm straight up in the air. beer also good!

theladylovescupcakes · 18/06/2010 21:01

"washed", obviously

HerBeatitude · 18/06/2010 21:08

What about bikini line? Can you use epilator for that?

mankyscotslass · 18/06/2010 21:52

You can, but I am too scared!

Eaglebird · 18/06/2010 22:23

Dust a bit of talc over your pits before you epilate. It helps the epilator glide over the skin.
Doesn't make it any less painful though
