hey ladies, can anyone help me, i need a 2 piece swimming costume, but not a bikini. i think they are called tankinis?

i am not a skinni mini by any stretch and i am tall, 5.9 so have been battling to find a costume that doesnt ride up my bum and crotch (sorry if tmi!) and figured a tankini might work better.

of course, so far i can only find ones that show an inch or two of my stomach, not a good look for me.

anyone have any suggestions?

thanks

I think tankinis are supposed to show a bit of tummy - hence my own avoidance thereof.

I'm 5'9" and very long in the torso. I got a "long" swimsuit in M&S

Lands End also have a good selection of long swimsuits but they were £££

Lands' End do 'tall' swimsuits and tankinis. Just had a quick look at their site, the sale is on and they have some in the sale - for anyone who is a UK 10 they have two really nice styles reduced to £9.00, the rest are more expensive.

hellymelly · 16/06/2010 14:31

Yes land's end tankinis are on the long side.American swimwear in general is more covering than European.Slighyl annoys me that you can be tall,or busty, but not both, but they do have quite a range of options. If you are busty then Freya usually do tankinis with a choice of bottoms,so you can go for shorties rather than a low cut brief.I am having the same dilemma as you but I also hate my chubby veiny legs and there is nothing to cover them up.(unless I spend all summer in my wetsuit)

frikonastick · 16/06/2010 16:02

thanks all, the lands end site has some good stuff, am thinking of the one with adjustable sides, and then the swim shorts. but i cant tell what the swim shorts would look like on a, well, normal women with thighs! so maybe best to stick with the low leg bikini bottoms? would link, but dont know how.

i've just bought a lands end tankini. it is the most amazing piece of swimwear i've ever owned! so flattering! i got the swim shorts and i've def got thighs but they look great - so flattering!

VerityBrulee · 16/06/2010 17:39

Another vote for Landsend swimmwear, brilliant quality and lots of permutations and combinations available

TheNextMrsDepp · 16/06/2010 17:49

Just looked the the Lands End site - looks lovely, but £98 for tankini and shorts???!! For that money it would have to transform me into Elle Mc-bloody-Pherson.

VerityBrulee · 16/06/2010 21:32

Have a look here

TheNextMrsDepp · 16/06/2010 23:54

Of course, good old eBay......

I think Tankini´s highlight and even create a muffin top, and I prefer to wear bikinis.

Tankini looks ok if you stand in front of mirror, not moving.

Then as soon as you move (ie swim) the muffin top fights for freedom

frikonastick · 17/06/2010 09:46

rofl at muffin top making break for freedom!

honestly this swimming costme thing is a nightmare. i would actually prefer a full costume, but its such a pita for going to the loo and stuff, we live in a hot country and spend alot of time at the pool, bikini or tankini is just so much more practical.

i like the swim shorts option as they are better for running round with DCs, i have been using surfer shorts, but they are too long and the fabric too thick to be totally comfortable.

have decided to go for the lands end one, told DH about how much it cost and he said, oh well, its not that much to spend considering how uncomfortable i am with my current costume and that i will wear it so much it doesnt matter. have decided he is so right, that if the first one is great, i will get another one
