Help me buy posh jewellery for mum at wedding?

Hi there, I'm struggling to sleep as I've been away from DP for a couple of weeks and evidently need to hear the snoring!

I really need your help about jewellery and accessories. My mum doesn't like to wear jewellery and never wears makeup. She was allergic to early cosmetics and now she can't stand the look. However, she has mentioned a few times how sad she was that her engagement ring is a very small stone. It is an emerald, which she wanted. To my mind it is very pretty, and I do know she doesn't wear jewellery.

But would it be silly to buy her some serious jewellery for my wedding? What would those of you who are mums think? I was thinking of buying her a nice bracelet or pendant. Given that she doesn't wear jewellery, but is very sad that she's never owned any 'proper' jewellery, do you think I should buy her something?

Any advice would be great!

It's a lovely thought, but I suspect she would worry about a bracelet snagging/put it away for "best" etc because she souns just like my mum...right down to the size of the stone. The only successful purchase has been an eternity ring to match the stone in the engagement ring: she doesn't feel odd wearing it and isn't worries about losing it

sounds worried

What I meant to say is that Mum wears the eternity ring every day and she doesn't feel overdressed as she is already used to wearing an engagement ring and wedding ring.

My brain is a little mushy today.

Pretty, discreet earrings? (Assuming she has pierced ears.) A precious stone(emerald?) set into white gold/yellow gold depending on her taste might be the perfect. maybe just try browsing round a local jewellers, or perhaps something vintage (a brooch?) may catch your eye.

What a lovely idea.

How about a birth stone or a necklace that incorporates the birthstones of her kids etc.? (and maybe throw in a few diamonds in there too!)

Thanks for the ideas. Btw she doesn't have pierced ears. The eternity ring sounds nice! And she does wear her wedding ring always, so you're right, she wouldn't feel odd wearing it. Moneyspider, I think she is very like your mum by the sound of it!
