Will I look too tarty?

A while ago you lovely ladies helped me find my wedding shoes, which are lovely very high black Gina court shoes.

I still haven't found a wedding dress, mostly because I am very lazy and because I don't want a trad. white dress. I have found a dress that I love, but I can't possibly wear it for church. Question is, would it be too tarty for the reception/dinner with prospective in-laws the night before? I quite like the black shoes/short white dress combo, but is it too weird?

It is in this link (btw, I look exactly like Scarlett Johansson. Exactly).

Btw, I was planning to have a big black flower clip to tie my hair back, and a black bag ... if that makes any difference.

I wouldn't have said that was tarty.

(and I so wanted to come on and reply "Yes, yes you will...." )

ticktockclock · 14/06/2010 22:30

Still no dress?? No not tarty at all. It is not low cut or revealing. Would look good. Nice dress.

JaneS · 14/06/2010 22:34

Thanks Flame.

I have to explain that that dress is very very short. It is lovely, but I will have to wear co-ordinating knickers! I'm not sure that's coming across in the photo.

But thanks, I think it is a lovely dress.

I am still trying to get onto the buying of a proper church dress - just no ideas at all. The only one I like at all is a Marchesa dress for a cool 6 grand ... and even then I'm not thrilled with it!

Ah well ... jeans and a t-shirt could be boho, right?

Love it

FlameOverThinks · 14/06/2010 22:35

Yup, I'm picturing teeny tiny 60s style shortness I really love it and honestly don't think tarty

ThatVikRinA22 · 14/06/2010 22:36

i really like it.

Fruitysunshine · 14/06/2010 22:37

I tried on 55 wedding dresses before I found "56" which turned out to be the one. A gorgeous Maggie Sottero. Don't worry, your dress will turn up.

Ewe · 14/06/2010 22:37

It's gorgeous, I wouldn't care if it was a bit too short!

scurryfunge · 14/06/2010 22:39

It looks fantastic

Poppity · 14/06/2010 23:06

I love it- tights or bare legs?

JaneS · 14/06/2010 23:46

I don't know Poppity - which do you think? My mum (who helped me buy it) thinks tights, but I think a lace dress will look odd with them ... plus it'll be August and, hopefully, hot.

Glad you all like it. Feeling a lot better now as I absolutely love it but did worry that mid-thigh plus mega high heels was a bit much.

(Oh, and thanks for the encouragement Fruity. )

I think bare legs are fine if your legs are flawless- somehow bad legs look more naked to me.
I can imagine it with white tights too though, very sixties.

ticktockclock · 14/06/2010 23:57

Oh no not tights with the shoes that you have. Never, ever a tight with an open toe shoe...so wrong...

JaneS · 15/06/2010 00:06

They're not open toe. They're closed-toe courts.

But I am not mad keen on white tights - I like a little 60s, not a whole fancy-dress look. We'll see ...

nope no tights

Bechka · 15/06/2010 14:05

Beautiful! I think it's gorgeous. Regarding the 'too short' issue, as long as you are confident that you would feel comfortable wearing it, then go for it. I love it!

AllBuggiedOut · 15/06/2010 14:35

Love it. And I reckon you need to get hold of Diana Rigg's wedding dress from On Her Majesty's Secret Service for the church

wifyhome · 15/06/2010 15:51

love the dress!

Pootles2010 · 15/06/2010 16:23

I'm going to sound a touch crazy here, this might be a terrible idea. But if you're bothered about the shortness, could you get a dressmaker to add an extra inch or so of white material to the bottom of the under layer, iyswim? I don't think you'd be able to tell because of the top layer of lace, but difficult to tell without seeing the dress.

AlaskaNebraska · 15/06/2010 16:24

its a bit BRIDAL isnt it

AlaskaNebraska · 15/06/2010 16:24

oh you are the bride! hahahahahah

JaneS · 15/06/2010 17:13

Yes, I think I could get a lot of mileage out of it afterwards by rocking up to weddings of people I hated and out-briding them!

Pootles, I did wonder about that. I'm going to see what DP thinks though (no truck with the 'not seeing the bride in her dress' here!).
