Hi

Does anybody have a capsule wardrobe list? I have just started checking out what to take on summer hols and I seem to have a strange mixture of clothes. I always end up taking too much stuff for me to wear and end up just wearing half of it. If anybody has a list they work from to keep down on packing I would love to see it. thanks

I haven't got a list but have worked out roughly what I'm taking this year
2 bikinis, one tankini top, one cossie
3 kaftans
6 dresses for evenings out
4 pairs of shorts
6 vest tops/halterneck tops
2 pairs flip flops
1 birkies
2 nice sandals
2 hats

kalo12 · 13/06/2010 22:57

is that capsule - sounds like loads to me

cornsilky · 13/06/2010 22:59

is it? oops!
no trews though - they take up loads of room

thelunar66 · 13/06/2010 23:04

I did a week in France in a tiny, tiny sports car.

I took....

3 skirts (one combat style with pockets for passports etc, one tight sexy denim and one a-line denim.

2 cropped trousers... one olivey green, one grey.

1 jeans - faded and comfy

a roll of coloured strappy tops.... white, black, grey, blue, beige, kaki etc

1 pale blue cardi with a hood.

1 waterproof

3 shoes.... a pair of cream canvas lace up, a pair of blue and white slip on ballets and a pair of grey trainers.

GeekOfTheWeek · 14/06/2010 09:51

Cornsilky, is that for 1 week or 2?

Op, I have the same problem, I take loads and don't wear most of it

In the travel section last year there were mnetters with packing spreadsheets

veryconfusedandupset · 14/06/2010 10:02

WE are going to Asturias - no nightlife, lots of walking and beach trips. I will take
2 x swimsuit
2 x shorts
1 x skirt
1 x Boden crinkle dress
1 x going out linen dress
Cardi
7 x T shirt
flip flops/flat shoes/walking sandals

Will travel in capris and hoodie.
2 weeks, and there is a washing machine.

I have discovered the secret formula, whatever you plan to take, only take half. I tried that and still only wore half. . Maybe not then.

Pinkmarshmallow · 14/06/2010 10:47

I'm just back from a 2 week sun holiday and brought v little with me, and a tube of travel wash, so half way thru the hol washed everything, hung it out on balcony to dry and ta-da...
Found dresses with patterns worked well because, when washed, they don't show the creases, (nor the melted chocolate and dribbled ice-cream and babeque sauce....)
Enjoy the holiday!

Marking my place - no bloody idea what to take and go on Sunday

doggiesayswoof · 14/06/2010 15:21

I don't take much at all. For a week I am taking

1 x dark blue capris (will wear these travelling)
1 x black shorts
1 x denim skirt
1 x grey dress
3 x tops (vests/camis, white, black, blue)
2 x swimsuit
2 x beach dresses, which I can also wear over shorts or cropped trews
flip flops
silver birkies
silver grey cardi
light waterproof jacket

I will wash stuff halfway through if I need to.

doggiesayswoof · 14/06/2010 15:24

Ooh geek I have a packing spreadsheet

It is wonderful

Sections for "to do before we go" "to buy before we go" "to pack"

Also a countdown calendar

katiewins22 · 14/06/2010 17:08

Brilliant - Just checked back to see if anybod had replied and loads of messages. I think a few of you have got the right idea. Keep it simple. I am going to sit down and write my list now!! One problem I do have is shoes. We always do a lot of walking on hols so I like to take trainers or good walking sandals (merrells or similar), flip flops and nice sandals. I tend to keep up with my running so take my good running shoes too. I end up with case half full of shoes!

I am going to re-read all your posts and try and stick to a simple plan - will keep u posted. Glad to hear not just me that takes too much

doggiesayswoof Oh I am fascinated by your holiday/packing spreadsheet! Please share and give details!!

katiewins22 · 16/06/2010 17:30

I second that request! doggiesayswoof it would be an act of great kindness if you could share of give a glimpse of your packing spreadsheet to lesser mortals like moi

Depends on where you're going and how much you like clothes. I love clothes and a summer holiday is my excuse to get changed several times a day.

I have just finished packing for holiday tomorrow.

At risk of sounding crazy, I write a list of the days I am going to be away with a column for day and another for night. I then go through my wardrobe/what I want to take and write an outfit for each day and evening. It doesn't take long and is even fun if you're in the mood. I tend to try it all on too to make sure I feel comfortable / happy with it. I've been doing it for years. I travel a lot so usually have a recent list for inspiration.

I do it for dd now too. Since I've been packing this way I feel a lot more organised and never have the "I wish I had brought...." moments I used to.

If you want to be hyper organised you can add a few more columns of washed / ironed / packed etc.

Have a nice holiday!

monkeysmama · 17/06/2010 12:04

Oh, and then you know what belts/shoes/bags etc you might want to take too.

traceybath · 17/06/2010 12:24

MM you are a woman after my own heart

SerendipityAlways · 17/06/2010 12:29

monkeysmama Oh you sound sooo organised - love the idea though of trying on all the outfits in advance! Could be a bit of a laugh of an evening over a few glasses of wine etc!! I am going away on my hols in 2 weeks time and have started to lay things out on the bed in the spare room as I go along...useful!

miche8 · 17/06/2010 13:12

i advise trying everything on and work out some outfits.

My last holiday i bought a new fairly cheap wardrobe everything including bras, pants, sandals, loads of floaty dresses and skirts, things i have never worn before all new with tags i'd only quickly tried it on in the shop and i felt really awkward on holiday with my new wardrobe that just wasn't me, the bras and pants didn't turn out to be a very good fit, the new sandals rubbed. i didn't even pack my trusty jeans.

Always take something warm, trainers/plimsoles, a pack a mac rain coat and an umbrella, not matter how hot it should be it always rains when we go away.

When i return i make a note of the outfits that worked, the ones that didnt and the things i wish i had taken and stick it in the suitcase for next time i pack.
