I've run out of all my make-up...

and I'm going to a big Boots tomorrow to stock up and thinking of trying some new things.

I'm talking foundation, powders etc rather than shadows and lippys. Also out of moisturiser and cleansing stuff (cut open the bottle this morning to get the last bit out with my finger!)

I am 30 with VERY pale, oily skin, mildly uneven tone but otherwise clear and I have approx 4 minutes a day to glam up

My biggest issue, usually, is finding something understated that doesn't slide off within an hour of application.

Any recomendations?

Estee Lauder double wear foundation! - I know its expensive - everything else I buy on the cheap but I couldnt be without it!!!

Love Benefit high beam too on cheek bones - lovely "natural" glow if you dont have time (takes literally 2 seconds).

Not sure if there is a MAC counter where you are going but they do terrific foundations/ powders for all skin types and have good advisors to help you match them (tonnes of tones).

PaulineCampbellJones · 12/06/2010 19:56

Ooh yes double wear foundation. Excellent as well.

I have similar skin to you and find Max Factor Second Skin or Perfect Skin or whatever it's called in Ivory to be v good.

Lavitabella · 12/06/2010 20:02

Not sure about what to recommend but with Glamour magazine this month, you get free benefit cosmetics. £2 for magazine and you can choose from eyeliner, concealer and eye brightner? all 3 are worth £45 in total for £6 if you buy 3 mags

notquitenormal · 12/06/2010 20:02

Hmmmm, don't think they have MAC but they do have Estee Lauder.

I think I might have a sample pot of highbeam somewhere...never really knew what it was for Will have to see if I can find it (and find my cheek bones.)

I got the eye brightener - bought the mag for dd1 for doing lots of revision! Not v impressed by it tbh and wish I'd just got the black eyeliner so dd1 would deffo have used it.

I have recently bought this clarins complexion perfector and it's fab!
I have 48 yr old skin and wearing this i can go without foundation which is fab in the summer.
Ask for a tester of it .

notquitenormal · 12/06/2010 20:16

ggirl, that looks really interesting. Is it very pigmented or is the colour more of a tint?

it looks quite dark when you first put it on but after a few minutes looks normal like natural skin
I have the darkest colour as it's summer but would probably need a lighter one in the winter.

Definitely worht sampling a few colours before buying. They give you those sachet samples of it.

brimfull · 12/06/2010 20:34

I have combination skin and loads of stuff slides off my t-zone.
This stays put and looks very natural. You can use it under foundation or concealer as well if you need more coverage. I have red broken veins on my nose which I pop a bit of concealer over this stuff.

DrSpechemin · 12/06/2010 20:37

Ok - you need some laura mercier oil free tinted moisturiser - it will last for much longer on your skin as it is oil free - super quick to put on as well.

notquitenormal · 13/06/2010 16:05

I got some doublewear foundation and some of the clarins stuff. Bagged a load of samples too.

Comeing home, I got into a car that was hotter than the sun and the foundation that make-up-conter lady put on still looks perfect.

Just gotta tell DP it's beans on toast till payday

For cleanser - you won't get this in boots, but i believe john lewis now sell it? - Liz Earle cleanse & polish is fab, it makes my (partly dry, partly oily) skin feel perfectly smooth, so my make up goes on really nicely. Also gets rid of eye make up like nothing i've tried before, you don't have to scrub which i assume must help avoid wrinkles? Try their website if there isn't JL near you.
